Want More LA Confidential? Similar Neo-Noir Films to Enjoy

Alright, so you’re lookin’ for movies like that L.A. Confidential, huh? That one with all the cops and the bad guys and the pretty ladies, yeah? I get it. It’s a good one, that’s for sure. Makes you think, you know? Like, who’s the good guy, who’s the bad guy? Sometimes hard to tell.

So, you want more like that? Okay, okay, I gotcha. Let’s see… First off, there’s this movie called Chinatown. Real old one, from the seventies, I think. Same kinda vibe, though. Lots of secrets, lots of twisty-turny stuff going on. Private eye, this fella, tryin’ to figure out what’s what. Kinda like that L.A. Confidential, but maybe a bit… slower, you know? More thinkin’, less shootin’. But good, real good.

Then there’s this other one, The Untouchables. Now that one’s got more action. About cops tryin’ to take down this gangster fella, Al Capone. You heard of him? Big bad dude. Lots of shootin’ in that one, lots of good guys versus bad guys. Not quite as complicated as L.A. Confidential, maybe, but still got that same kinda feel. Cops and robbers, you know? Always a good time.

Now, if you want somethin’ a little different, there’s L.A. Noire. Wait a minute, that ain’t a movie! That’s one of them… video games. My grandson plays it all the time. But it’s the same story basiclly, the cops and solving crimes and all that jazz. It’s like you’re in the movie, you know? Walkin’ around, talkin’ to people, lookin’ for clues. Pretty neat stuff, even for an old gal like me.

  • Thinkin’ Movies: Like I said, Chinatown is a good one for thinkin’. Lots of talkin’, lots of clues, you gotta pay attention. There’s another one called Night Moves, a bit more modern I reckon, still good though. You kinda gotta piece it all together yourself. Not for everyone, I guess, but if you liked how L.A. Confidential made you think, you’ll like these.
  • Action Movies: The Untouchables, that’s your action movie. Lots of shootin’, lots of excitement. Keeps you on the edge of your seat, you know? Not much thinkin’ involved, but hey, sometimes that’s what you want.

And then there’s all these other “neo-noir” movies. Whatever that means! Sounds fancy, don’t it? But basically, they’re just like those old black and white movies, but made later. Like L.A. Confidential, see? Same kinda style, same kinda stories. Dark, mysterious, lots of shadows. Some are good, some are… well, not so good. But if you like that L.A. Confidential look and feel, that’s what you gotta search for, “neo-noir”.

Sin City, now that one’s weird. Even weirder than most of ’em. Lots of crazy stuff happenin’ in that one. Not for the faint of heart, I tell ya. But if you like things a little… out there, you might like it. It’s got that same dark vibe, but cranked up to eleven, you know? Like L.A. Confidential on steroids, ha!

Oh, and don’t forget that Black Dahlia story. They made a movie outta that too. Same writer as L.A. Confidential, I heard. Another dark one, another mystery. Lots of dead bodies and whatnot. If you like that kinda thing, it’s right up your alley.

So, there you have it. A few movies like that L.A. Confidential. Some are old, some are new, some are action-packed, some are more for thinkin’. But they all got that same kinda feel, that same dark and mysterious vibe. You just gotta find the ones you like, that’s all. And don’t be afraid to try somethin’ a little different, you know? You might be surprised what you find. And if you’re still not sure, just ask that nice young man at the video store, he’ll know. They always know.

Anyways, hope that helps ya out. Now, go on and watch some movies. And don’t forget to bring me back some popcorn, will ya? I like the extra buttery kind.
