Oh, honey, you wanna know about TV shows like Jane the Virgin? That show, it’s a real hoot, ain’t it? Got everything a body could want – love, laughs, and a whole lotta drama. Reminds me of them soap operas my grandma used to watch, ‘cept this one’s got a little more pep in its step, ya know?
So you’re itchin’ for somethin’ similar? Well, I ain’t no fancy TV critic, but I’ve seen a few things in my time. Let me tell ya, there are some shows just like “Jane the Virgin” and they are good too.
First off, there’s this one called “The Good Place”. It’s a bit different, mind you. It’s about this lady who, well, she kicks the bucket and ends up in heaven, or somethin’ like it. But it ain’t all harps and halos, no sir. Turns out, she ain’t supposed to be there. Lots of funny stuff happens, and it makes ya think a little bit too. Not as much lovey-dovey stuff as “Jane,” but it’s got its moments. This is a good one, you should watch it!
Then there’s another one, “One Day at a Time”. Now this one, it’s about a Cuban family. They got a mama, a grandma, and a couple of kids. They go through all sorts of things, just like any family. They laugh, they cry, they fight, they make up. It’s kinda sweet, and it reminds me a bit of my own family, ‘cept we ain’t Cuban. We’re just plain old folks. This show is on Netflix. You know Netflix? Big red “N”?
Why did they take “Jane the Virgin” off that Netflix thing anyway? Heard some talk about some contract or other. Bunch of fancy words I don’t rightly understand. They say “Jane the Virgin” won’t be on Netflix for five years. Five years! That is a long time! All I know is, it ain’t there no more, and that’s a darn shame. You can still buy it on Amazon and Apple. Those young’uns and their technology, always changin’ things up.

If you like that “Jane” show, you might like that “Sweet Magnolias” too. It’s based on some books, they say. Lots of romance in that one. I saw a couple episodes, and it seemed alright. This one is on Netflix too. But I don’t like it that much. I like “Jane the Virgin” more.
That “Jane the Virgin” show, it was somethin’ else, wasn’t it? That girl, gettin’ pregnant without even… well, you know. And all them twists and turns! Kept ya on the edge of your seat, that’s for sure. My neighbor, she used to come over every week, and we’d watch it together. We’d gasp and holler at the TV like a couple of old fools. Good times, good times.
They say it’s a “comedy-drama.” I guess that’s about right. It made me laugh, that’s for sure. But it also made me think about things. Like family and love and doin’ what’s right. Important stuff, ya know? And that mama of hers, always givin’ her advice. Reminds me of my own mama, God rest her soul. Always had somethin’ to say about everythin’.
Now, that other show, “The Good Place,” it’s a little more… out there. It is not like “Jane the Virgin” that much. But it’s still a good watch. It’s got its funny moments, and it makes you think about what it means to be a good person. And that’s always a good thing, ain’t it? Even if you ain’t in heaven, or wherever she is. It is a little bit dark. Not like “Jane the Virgin”.
And “One Day at a Time,” that’s a good one for family. I think everyone should watch this show. It is good for the family. It’s got heart, that show. It shows you that even when things get tough, family’s always there for ya. And that’s somethin’ we all need to remember, especially these days. World’s gettin’ crazier every day, seems like. But as long as you got your family, you can get through anythin’.
So there you have it. A few shows that are kinda like “Jane the Virgin.” Maybe not exactly the same, but they got some of the same stuff. Love, laughs, and a little bit of thinkin’. That “Jane the Virgin” is really good. You should watch other shows like Jane the Virgin.
Now, if you’ll excuse me, I think I’m gonna go see if I can find that old remote. Maybe there’s somethin’ good on the regular TV. Or maybe I’ll just take a nap. This old body ain’t what it used to be. But hey, at least I got my memories, right? And good TV shows, of course. Can’t forget about those.
