Okay, so I’ve been on this huge kick lately trying to find movies that give off the same vibe as “The Addams Family.” You know, that darkly comedic, spooky-but-fun, family-friendly-ish kind of thing. It’s harder than you think!
First, I jumped onto Google, naturally. I typed in stuff like “movies like Addams Family,” “gothic family movies,” and “dark comedy for kids.” I got a bunch of the usual suspects, which was a good starting point, but I wanted to dig deeper.
My Movie Hunt Begins
I started by making a list of the obvious ones:
- The Addams Family (1991) and Addams Family Values (1993) – Obviously. Gotta have the originals!
- Beetlejuice (1988) – I like the funny.
- Edward Scissorhands (1990) – Classic for a reason.
- The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) – Another animation classic.
Then I realize that these are Tim Burton.I need to get * I started make a list about non-Tim Burton movies:
- ParaNorman(2012)-Stop-motion animation about a boy who can talk to ghosts.
- Frankenweenie(2012)-A boy reanimates his dead dog. A touching, but slightly creepy, story.
I spent a good chunk of the afternoon just browsing through movie descriptions and trailers. I added a few more to my list, based purely on gut feeling:
- Hotel Transylvania (2012)-Okay, this one is super popular,it’s good.
I feel like I’m making progress, but I’m still craving something more. Something I haven’t seen a million times. Time to really put those search skills to the test!
I think I’m getting a pretty good list going! This weekend is going to be full of spooky, silly movie marathons. Mission accomplished… for now!
