The Clearing Premiere Recap: Kidnapping, Cults, and Blackmarsh

Alright, so I watched this thing called “The Clearing,” and let me tell ya, it’s a bit of a head-scratcher. First off, there’s this girl, Amy, with hair so blonde it’s almost white. Like, the kind of blonde that looks like it’d bleach right out in the sun. She’s young, maybe a teenager or somethin’.

The whole thing starts kinda spooky-like. This other girl, Asha, gets snatched up. Sounds terrible, right? Well, it gets weirder. Amy, she takes Asha under her wing, calls her “sister,” and starts teachin’ her all sorts of strange stuff. Real strange. They’re livin’ in this place called Blackmarsh, and it’s run by these women they call “The Aunties.”

  • Amy: Bleached blonde hair, kinda like a leader or somethin’.
  • Asha: The girl who got taken, learnin’ all this weird stuff.
  • The Aunties: These bossy women runnin’ the show at Blackmarsh.
  • Adrienne Beaufort: Big boss lady, spiritual leader of this cult thing called The Kindred. Sounds fancy, but I bet it ain’t.

Now, these Aunties, they’re answerin’ to some bigger fish, a lady named Adrienne Beaufort. She’s the head honcho of this group called “The Kindred.” Sounds like one of them cults you hear about on the TV, always up to no good. They got all these weird rules and ways of doin’ things. Brutal, they called it. Don’t sound right to me, not one bit.

So, Amy’s teachin’ Asha all this Kindred stuff. It’s all about followin’ Adrienne and doin’ what the Aunties say. Brainwashin’ her, if you ask me. Fillin’ her head with all sorts of nonsense. Poor girl, probably scared out of her wits. Don’t know why folks gotta go around messin’ with other people’s heads like that. Makes no sense.

They filmed this whole thing in Australia, Victoria to be exact. Guess they got places there that look all spooky and mysterious, just right for a story like this. Filmin’ started last year, 2022, in July. Wonder how long it took ’em to make the whole thing. Probably a long time, movin’ all them cameras and people around.

And then there’s this fella, Latham. He’s in the mix too. Seems like he knows Amy or somethin’. He’s lookin’ for her, callin’ her name. Says he felt someone hidin’ in the bushes. Maybe he’s tryin’ to save Asha, or maybe he’s got his own reasons. Hard to say right now. This whole thing’s got more twists and turns than a country road.

This “Clearing” show, it’s got me thinkin’. Makes you wonder ’bout folks and what they believe. Some people, they’ll believe just about anything, specially if someone’s tellin’ ’em it’s the right way. And these cults, they prey on that. They take advantage of people who are lookin’ for somethin’ to believe in. It’s a sad state of affairs, if you ask me.

It’s called a psychological crime-thriller, whatever that means. Sounds fancy, but it’s just a story ‘bout messed up people doin’ messed up things. I’m hopin’ Asha gets outta there, finds her way back to normal life. And that Amy, she needs to get her head straight too. Maybe Latham can help, or maybe he’s just gonna make things worse. Gotta keep watchin’ to find out.

This whole Blackmarsh thing, with the Aunties and Adrienne, it just gives me the creeps. People livin’ out in the middle of nowhere, followin’ some strange woman’s rules. Reminds me of that story my grandma used to tell, ’bout those folks out in the hills. Always somethin’ fishy goin’ on with them. Guess some things never change.

So yeah, that’s the first episode of “The Clearing” for ya. Weird, spooky, and kinda sad. Makes you think, makes you wonder. And leaves you wantin’ to know what happens next. I’ll be watchin’, that’s for sure. Gotta see how this whole mess plays out. Hope it ain’t too much longer, my old eyes get tired watchin’ all that drama.
