Okay, so I’ve been obsessed with this idea lately—remaking the old Disney movie, “The Black Hole.” I know, I know, it’s a bit of a deep cut, but hear me out. It’s got so much potential! So I grabbed a pen and started jotting down some ideas.
First off, I needed to figure out who’s going to help me with this crazy project. I remembered reading somewhere that Jon Spaihts, the guy who co-wrote “Prometheus,” was going to give it a shot with Joe Kosinski. So I started digging, trying to find any information about what they might have planned.
Then, I began searching for a possible release date, dreaming big, of course. I saw some chatter online about it being a “To Be Announced” thing, which got me thinking, maybe I should start considering some possible dates, just for fun. I even stumbled upon a fan site that had it listed as February 14, 2025, starring some actors I didn’t recognize. I thought, “Hey, that’s a pretty good date!” and decided to jot it down as my pretend target. Valentine’s Day in space, why not?
After that, I watched the original 1979 version again. Man, that movie is a trip! It was released in the US on December 21, 1979, and get this, it was one of the last big Hollywood films to have an overture at the beginning. Like, how cool is that? It made me feel like I was going to a fancy play or something.
But watching it again, I realized the main issue with the film is that it doesn’t really do justice to the whole “black hole” concept. I mean, the black hole is there, and the characters talk about it a lot, but it doesn’t feel… I don’t know, awe-inspiring? And Maximilian Schell’s character, he’s supposed to be obsessed with it, but it just comes off a bit, well, cheesy.
And don’t even get me started on the ending! It’s just one big shootout with robots and then a meteor shower that conveniently destroys everything while the main bad guy is still going on about the black hole. It’s all a bit much, even for a sci-fi flick.
So, here’s what I did next. I started brainstorming ways to fix these issues in my remake. I made a list:
- Give the black hole some real presence: Make it feel like a character in itself, something truly mysterious and powerful.
- Tone down the cheese: Update the dialogue and the acting to make it feel more modern and believable.
- Rethink the ending: Maybe something less chaotic and more, I don’t know, thought-provoking? Maybe explore what actually happens when you enter a black hole?
I spent hours scribbling down ideas, filling up pages in my notebook. It’s a mess, honestly, but it’s a start. I even started sketching out some concept art. I’m no artist, but it helps me visualize things. I’m feeling really good about this. Maybe this remake idea isn’t so crazy after all. It’s a long shot, but hey, a guy can dream, right?
