The Big Lebowski Locations: Dude, Where Was It Filmed? | A Guide to the Movies Best Spots

Okay, so today I’m gonna talk about my little adventure tracking down the filming spots of “The Big Lebowski.” You know, that classic Coen Brothers movie? Yeah, that one. I’ve always loved that movie, and I figured, why not try to see some of those places in real life?

First, I did a bunch of Googling. You wouldn’t believe how many websites are dedicated to this kind of thing. I found some good starting points, like addresses and stuff. Then I grabbed my phone, opened up a map app, and started plugging in those addresses. I made a list, basically a little itinerary for myself.

The first stop was the Dude’s bungalow. It’s over in Venice. When I got there, it looked pretty much the same as in the movie, which was cool. A little run-down, but hey, that’s the Dude’s style, right? I took some pictures, felt like a bit of a tourist, but whatever. I was having fun.

  • Next up, I hit the bowling alley, Hollywood Star Lanes. Sadly, that place is gone now. It got demolished a while back to make way for some school. That was a bummer. I just stood there for a minute, imagining the Dude, Walter, and Donny bowling a few frames.
  • After that, I drove over to the diner where the Dude meets with the Big Lebowski’s assistant. That’s Johnie’s Coffee Shop, but it’s also not a coffee shop anymore. It was only used for filming. But still, I recognized the exterior immediately. I took a picture to memorize it.

Then I went to a few more spots – like the mansion where the Dude meets Jackie Treehorn, and the place where Walter smashes that “Corvette” with a crowbar. I even tried to find the spot where the Dude’s car got stolen and subsequently burned. No luck there, but that’s fine.

It was a pretty fun day, driving around and seeing these places in person. It’s like stepping into the movie, in a way. It makes you appreciate all the work that goes into making a film, you know, finding the right locations and all that. I didn’t see any nihilists, thankfully. But overall, it was a good time. I recommend doing it if you’re a big fan of the movie. Just don’t expect to actually bowl at Hollywood Star Lanes, that’s all I’m saying.

Well, That’s it for my “Big Lebowski” location adventure. Hope you enjoyed my little story. Maybe next time I will have another adventure to share with you. Stay tuned!
