So, I was messing around the other day with words, as one does, and I got this idea to look up words that end in “tae”. Don’t ask me why, it just popped into my head. First, I grabbed a pen and paper and tried to think of some myself, scribbling down whatever came to mind. You know, just brainstorming. I came up with a few, like “aortae” and “vitae” but that was the limit of my vocabulary.
Then I figured, why not check what the internet has to say? I mean, there’s gotta be a bunch more, right? I jumped on my computer and started with a basic search on a words game website. I typed in “words ending with tae” into their search bar. The page loaded, and bam! It gave me a list. I saw a lot of them, like “ANTAE”, “AORTAE”, “ARBORVITAE”, and even some weird ones like “TYPOTHETAE”. But that website is more about word puzzles. It gave me the words, but not much else. No meanings, no usage, nothing!
Next, I tried one of those word finder sites. You know, the kind that helps you cheat at Scrabble or Words With Friends? It gave me a list of around 153 words, which was way more than the first site. But again, it was just a list. No definitions, no examples.
I wasn’t satisfied, though. I wanted to know what these words actually meant. I mean, who even uses words like “Acalyptratae” in everyday conversation? No one! So I went to another website, one with a dictionary feature. They gave me a list too, but this time it was a bit more organized. They had the words grouped by length, which was kinda cool.
- There were short ones like “antae” and “vitae”.
- Then longer ones like “arborvitae” and “typothetae”.
Still no definitions, but there was something interesting on this page. I could see a clickable list for jumping to specific word lengths ending in “tae.”
After jumping around a few more sites, I finally found one that listed a few with their definitions. It wasn’t much, but it was something. I learned that “antae” are those architectural thingies, and “vitae” is, like, a life story or something.
So, yeah, that’s how I spent my afternoon. Going down a rabbit hole of words ending in “tae”. I found a bunch, learned a little, and mostly just amused myself. It wasn’t exactly productive, but hey, it was fun in a nerdy sort of way.
Final Thoughts
It’s kinda crazy how many words there are out there that we never use. And how easy it is to find them with just a few clicks. Makes you wonder what other weird word endings are waiting to be discovered. Maybe I’ll try another one tomorrow. But for now, I think I’ve had enough of “tae” words for one day.
