Scary horror movies like the hills have eyes: Top picks

Okay, so I’ve been on this huge horror movie kick lately, and I kept seeing “The Hills Have Eyes” pop up in recommendations. I finally watched it, and whoa, it was intense! Now I’m on a quest to find more movies that give me that same kind of messed-up, isolated terror vibe. So, here’s how I went about it, my little horror movie deep-dive:

First, I straight-up Googled “movies like The Hills Have Eyes”. I mean, that’s the obvious starting point, right? I got a bunch of lists, some helpful, some not so much. I skimmed through a few, jotting down titles that sounded promising. I made myself a basic list in my phone of the ones that were appering more often, you know?

My Initial Watchlist:

  • Wrong Turn – This one came up A LOT. Seemed like a similar backwoods, inbred family kind of deal.
  • House of 1000 Corpses – Rob Zombie’s stuff is always pretty out there, so I figured this might be a good one.
  • Texas Chainsaw Massacre – Classic, obviously. Had to see if it lived up to the hype in this specific subgenre.
  • Frontier(s) – This one sounded brutal, a French horror film. I kept seeing it described as “extreme,” so… yeah.
  • Wolf Creek-That one talks a lot about a crazy guy in the Australian outback.

Then i started to look at some trailers, for the most voted movies, so i could have an idea. Wolf Creek looked scary!

Next, I dug a little deeper. I went onto some movie forums, like Reddit’s horror section. I find real people’s opinions are often better than some random website’s list, there are dedicated communities. I searched for threads specifically discussing movies similar to “The Hills Have Eyes,” and I found some good discussions.

People were throwing around names I hadn’t seen on the initial lists, I got a sense of whether the movies were REALLY similar, or just kinda sorta in the same ballpark. You know, sometimes people recommend stuff that’s just… not quite right.

I ended up adding a couple more to my list based on those forum discussions like:

  • Eden Lake: Because some guy said that movie made my blood run cold.
  • High Tension: I am always up to a good french movie.

Now, i have a pretty decent list, I just gotta start watching! I’ll probably start with “Wrong Turn” since it was the most recommended, and then go from there. I like to keep notes while I watch, just to jot down what I liked or didn’t like, and if it really scratched that “Hills Have Eyes” itch. Maybe i´ll share it later!
