Well, let me tell ya somethin’ about this here Santa Fe Catholic basketball. I ain’t no fancy sports writer, mind you, just a regular person tryin’ to make sense of it all. But I hear things, ya know? Folks talkin’ at the market, kids shoutin’ on the playground.
So, this Santa Fe Catholic, they got a basketball team, a boys’ team, I reckon. Heard tell they’re called the Hawks. Sounds about right, hawks are kinda fierce, like those boys be on the court, I imagine. They got a fella named Mike Blicher coachin’ them. Don’t know him from Adam, but folks say he’s alright. They got a fella named David Saliba, he’s the athletic director, whatever that means. Sounds important though.
Now, this school, Santa Fe Catholic High School, it’s in Lakeland. That’s in Florida, ya know, sunshine state. They play in somethin’ called District 3A-7. Don’t ask me what that means, it’s all numbers and letters to me. But I hear they did pretty good last year, 2023-24 season they call it. Won a bunch of games, lost a few too, that’s how it goes I guess.
The 2023-24 Season and the Close Call
They say the Hawks had a record of 24 wins and 6 losses. That’s a whole lotta winnin’ if you ask me. But they lost in the District Championship, somethin’ close, 58 to 57. Just one measly point! That musta stung somethin’ fierce. Bell Creek Academy, that’s who beat ’em. Guess they were just a tad better that day. It happens, ya know. Even the best roosters lose a cockfight now and then.
- Key Players (Maybe): I don’t rightly know their names, but every team’s got their stars, right? The quick ones, the tall ones, the ones who can throw that ball real good. I bet Santa Fe Catholic got a few of them.
- Coach Mike Blicher: People seem to think he’s doin’ a good job. Keepin’ them boys outta trouble and makin’ ‘em play good basketball. That’s important, I reckon.
- The Schedule: They got a schedule, games all lined up. Some at home, some away. You can find it online, they say. *, whatever that is. Sounds fancy.
Looking Ahead to the 2024-25 Season
Now they’re lookin’ ahead to the next season, 2024-25. Probably tryin’ to do even better this time around. Gotta practice hard, work together, that’s what I always say. Teamwork makes the dream work, ain’t that the truth?
Heard tell there’s other Catholic schools playin’ basketball too. Catholic University Cardinals, they got a team. And Bethlehem Catholic, they got a fella named Scott McClary coachin’. Lots of basketball bein’ played, it seems. Keeps the kids busy, that’s a good thing.
I don’t know much about this whole college basketball thing, NCAA they call it. Division III, Landmark Conference. Sounds complicated. But these Santa Fe Catholic boys, they’re high school. Still gotta learn their ABCs and 123s, just like my grandkids.
What Matters Most
You know, at the end of the day, it ain’t just about winnin’ and losin’. It’s about them boys learnin’ somethin’, workin’ hard, and bein’ good people. That’s what I tell my grandkids, anyway. And have fun doin’ it, can’t forget that part! If them Santa Fe Catholic Hawks play their hearts out and have a good time, that’s all that really matters.

If you wanna know more, there’s this thing called MaxPreps. They got all the scores and schedules and whatnot. Joined back in 2021, apparently. Like I said, it’s all fancy and digital these days. Me, I just like hearin’ about it from folks. Word of mouth, that’s how things used to be, and it worked just fine.
