On the Trail of Blacklight Filming Locations: Visit the Real-Life Settings of the Film!

Okay, so, I’ve been getting into this whole “visiting famous movie locations” thing lately. It’s pretty cool, you know? And the latest movie that caught my eye was “Blacklight”. I decided to dig into where they filmed this flick.

First, I hit up Facebook. There’s this group called “Historic Film Locations” – almost 900,000 people in it, crazy, right? Anyway, I figured these folks would know something. And yeah, they did. Turns out, a big chunk of the movie was shot in Melbourne, Australia. I’ve never been, but it’s way down in the southeastern part of the country.

Then I started poking around on this site called MovieLocate. They have a database of, like, tons of movie and TV show locations. I also found out the film started shooting in Melbourne in November 2020. But get this – they filmed a car chase scene in Canberra! I guess Melbourne wasn’t enough for a good chase, haha.

  • Started looking online for “Blacklight” filming spots.
  • Checked out a Facebook group called “Historic Film Locations”.
  • Found out a lot of it was filmed in Melbourne, Australia.
  • Discovered a car chase was shot in Canberra.
  • Then realized some places in the movie, which I recognized from Star Wars, were actually in Iceland.

Now, I’m a bit of a “Star Wars” nerd, too. And I remembered reading somewhere that they used Iceland for some scenes in “Rogue One” and “The Force Awakens”. They had mentioned black sand beaches and a volcano. Then, I find out that “Blacklight” used some of those same spots! Like, they filmed at Myrdalssandur and Reynisfjara – both are black sand beaches. And they used Hjorleifshofoi and Hafursey, which are also in Iceland. All in the same area!

So, yeah, that’s what I found out about the filming locations for “Blacklight”. It’s cool to see how they use these real-world places to create different worlds in movies. I am gonna see if I can visit some of these spots sometime.
