Alright, so you’re lookin’ for shows like that American Idol thing, huh? Well, lemme tell ya, there’s a whole bunch of ’em out there. Folks seem to love watchin’ other folks sing and compete, I guess it’s kinda like watchin’ a good ol’ fashioned barn raising, but with more glitter and high notes.
First off, there’s this The Voice show. Now, that one’s got these famous singers sittin’ in big red chairs, listenin’ to folks sing. If they like what they hear, they push a button and their chair spins around. It’s kinda like when you’re churnin’ butter and suddenly it turns into somethin’ delicious, only with music instead of cream. They got all sorts of singers on there, young, old, all kinds. And them judges, they fight over who gets to have which singer on their team. It’s a hoot, I tell ya.

- And Blake Shelton, he’s one of them country boys, talks just like us, kinda.
- Then there’s all sorts of other judges comin’ and goin’, depends on the year I reckon.
Then there’s Britain’s Got Talent. Now, that one ain’t just singin’, mind you. They got all sorts of folks doin’ all sorts of things. You got magicians, dancers, comedians, even them folks that swallow swords – gives me the shivers just thinkin’ about it. But yeah, there’s a lot of singin’ on that show too, and some of them singers are real good, like the kinda good that makes you wanna clap your hands and stomp your feet, even if you got arthritis.
Another one’s called The X Factor, from over in England. It’s kinda like American Idol, they got auditions, and then the judges pick the best ones, and then they compete each week. It’s got all the drama and excitement you could want. Folks gettin’ voted off, judges bickerin’, the whole shebang. It’s like watchin’ a soap opera, but with better music, usually.
Now, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ a little different, there’s America’s Got Talent. That’s the one I was just talkin’ about, but the American version. It’s pretty much the same thing, just with American folks instead of British ones. They got some real characters on that show, let me tell ya. Folks that make ya laugh, folks that make ya cry, and folks that make ya wonder what in the tarnation they’re thinkin’. But hey, that’s what makes it fun, right?
And don’t forget about The Masked Singer. Now that one’s just plain weird. They got celebrities singin’ in these crazy costumes, like a big ol’ furry monster or a giant flower. And the judges gotta guess who’s singin’ under the mask. It’s like playin’ a game of “Who’s That?” at the county fair, but with way more sequins and a bigger budget. Honestly, I don’t always get it, but it’s kinda fun to watch, I guess. Keeps you on your toes, that’s for sure.
There’s also a show called, I Can See Your Voice. It’s another singin’ show. Now this one is a bit different, it has folks guessin’ if a person can sing good or not just by lookin’ at ‘em. It’s kinda like judgin’ a book by its cover but with singin’. Sometimes they’re right, sometimes they’re wrong, but it’s all in good fun. They got them celebrity judges on that one too, always makin’ jokes and havin’ a good time.
So yeah, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ to watch after American Idol is done for the season, there’s plenty of other shows out there. Just gotta flip through the channels or do that fancy internet thing the youngsters are always doin’. You’ll find somethin’ you like, I reckon. Just remember to have some snacks handy, cause watchin’ all that singin’ can make a body hungry!
And if you got one of them fancy TVs, you can probably find all these shows on things like Netflix, or iTunes, or Amazon. Or somethin’ like that. They got all sorts of ways to watch TV these days, makes my head spin sometimes. Back in my day, we had one channel, and we liked it! But I guess times change, huh?
