Okay, so I was totally in the mood for a rom-com, but like, a good one, you know? I’d just finished rewatching “The Hating Game” for the millionth time (don’t judge), and I needed something to fill that Lucy and Josh-shaped hole in my heart. So, I started digging.
My Rom-Com Quest
First, I brainstormed what I loved about “The Hating Game.” Enemies-to-lovers? Check. Witty banter? Double-check. Strong, ambitious female lead? Absolutely.
Then I hit up Google. My search terms were pretty basic: “movies like The Hating Game,” “enemies to lovers movies,” “romantic comedies with strong female leads.” Simple stuff.

I scrolled through tons of lists. Some suggestions were obvious (“The Proposal,” “27 Dresses”—been there, done that). Others were totally off-base (why would I want a superhero movie after a rom-com?). I jotted down a few that seemed promising, based on their descriptions and reviews.
- “Set It Up” – Sounded fun.
- “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” – It looked cute.
- “Crazy Rich Asians”-Had great reviews.
Next, I checked out the trailers on YouTube. This is crucial, people! You can tell a lot from a trailer. Some of them immediately got crossed off the list—too cheesy, too boring, not enough chemistry.
Finally, I settled on two movies:”Set it Up” and “Crazy Rich Asians.” I watched them * loved them!
It took some effort, but I am happy with my reaserch and result.
