Well, if you liked that Chernobyl thingy, that movie about things going boom and folks getting scared, you might like some other scary movies too. Movies like Chernobyl Diaries, they call ’em. I don’t watch too many of these things, gives me the heebie-jeebies, but my grandkids, they love ’em. Always screamin’ at the TV, silly things.
So, what’s like that Chernobyl movie? I heard folks talkin’ about this “Exorcist” movie. Said it’s about some poor little girl gettin’ all messed up by somethin’ you can’t see. Sounds spooky, right? Not my cup of tea, but if you like that Chernobyl kinda scare, maybe you’ll like this too.
- Scary things in the dark: Lots of movies got scary stuff happenin’ in dark places. Like that Chernobyl movie, people gettin’ lost, bad things happenin’. They say there’s movies about folks gettin’ lost in the woods, or in some old houses. Hills Have Eyes, they call one. Sounds dusty and dry, like my old farm before the rain. Wrong Turn, that’s another one. Guess folks takin’ the wrong road always end up in trouble, just like in real life, hah!
- Foreign lands, foreign scares: Then there’s movies about scary stuff happenin’ in other countries. That Dyatlov Pass thing, I heard about that. Cold and snowy, people disappearin’. Reminds me of that winter we had back in ’63, so cold the chickens froze solid. Brrr!
People also talk about movies like “Grave Encounters” and “Quarantine” or “REC”. Never seen ’em, but they say they’re kinda like that Chernobyl movie, people gettin’ stuck in scary places. I reckon bein’ stuck ain’t fun, whether it’s with monsters or just plain bad luck.
Now, there’s this other Chernobyl thing, not a movie, but a show. A big fancy show on somethin’ called HBO. My neighbor, Agnes, she watches it. Says it’s about that real boom-boom that happened over in Ukraine. Real sad stuff, all that mess. But I guess folks like watchin’ it, seein’ how things went wrong. Scary and sad, that’s life, ain’t it?
You know, you can find all sorts of these scary movies on them computery things now. Netflix, iToons, Amazon… My grandson, he showed me. All them little pictures, you just click ’em and the movie starts playin’. Magical, I tell ya, like somethin’ out of a fairy tale. But mostly just scary tales, it seems.
Some movies ain’t just about monsters though. Sometimes it’s people that are scary. Like that movie about the family goin’ to the beach house. “Us” they called it. Thought they were gonna have a good time, but things went all wrong. Just like that time we went to the county fair and my prize-winning pig got loose. Chaos, pure chaos!
So, if you’re lookin’ for movies like Chernobyl Diaries, there’s plenty to pick from. Some got monsters, some got creepy places, some just got people doin’ bad things. Me? I’d rather watch a good western, but to each their own, I say. Just remember to turn on the lights after, you don’t want no shadows lurkin’ in the corners.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed the chickens. They get grumpy if they ain’t fed on time, and a grumpy chicken is almost as scary as one of them movie monsters, hah!
