So, the other day I was just chilling and I got this sudden urge to watch some action-packed movies. I remembered White House Down and thought, “Man, that was a good one!” But I’d already seen it like a million times, so I decided to find some similar movies.
I grabbed my laptop and started my quest. First, I hit up Google. You know, just typing in “movies like White House Down”.
The search results were all over the place. Some articles compared it to Olympus Has Fallen, which I guess makes sense since they both have that “White House under attack” theme. There was this other movie called Die Hard and the article said that no action movie list is complete without it. It looks really old but I think I’m gonna watch it anyway. And I noticed a lot of lists also mentioned Die Hard.
Then I stumbled upon this site, Letterboxd. It’s like a social network for movie buffs. Anyway, they had a list of 75 films similar to White House Down! 75! That’s a lot. Made by some folks in New Zealand, apparently, using data from TMDb. Cool, huh?
I also found this German site that listed 20 similar movies. It was all in German, but I could make out the titles and some names like Roland Emmerich, Channing Tatum, and Jamie Foxx. These guys are in White House Down, I think. I feel like I’m getting some good leads here.
While reading about Olympus Has Fallen, I learned it came out the same year as White House Down, 2013. They both had a terrorist attack on the White House. That’s kind of wild, two movies with almost the same plot coming out in the same year. Oh, and I found out that White House Down is a political action thriller film. It’s about this divorced US Capitol Police officer trying to save his daughter and the President when terrorists attack. Sounds intense, right?
I also found this forum where people were talking about whether there would be a sequel to White House Down. The consensus was “probably not.” It didn’t make a ton of money and wasn’t a huge hit.
So, after all that digging, here’s what I ended up with:
- Olympus Has Fallen: This one’s a no-brainer since it’s so similar.
- Die Hard: Everyone seems to love this one, so I’m adding it to my list.
- The 75 movies from Letterboxd: I won’t watch all of them, but I’ll definitely check out a few.
It was a fun little research project. I love how one simple question can lead you down so many different paths on the internet. Now I’ve got a bunch of movies to add to my watchlist. I’m excited! Guess I’ll go grab some popcorn. Catch you later!
