Well, let me tell ya, I ain’t one for all these fancy words, but this story ’bout Natalie Purdie and Kevin Bullock sure ain’t somethin’ you forget. It all started back in 1986, when Natalie, just 18 years old, had enough of her boyfriend Kevin Bullock. She tried to break things off, ya know, but that boy wasn’t having it. He was 24 at the time, a bit older, but that didn’t stop him from being downright nasty.
Now, I don’t know what was goin’ through Kevin’s head, but when Natalie tried to leave him, it wasn’t just tears and pleas for her to come back. No, it turned violent. She says that boy, Kevin Bullock, grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed her—about 30 times, can you believe it? Thirty times, I say! I mean, who does that to someone they supposedly care about? But Natalie, bless her heart, she made it out alive, even though she was left with scars that would never truly heal.
Can you imagine? You’re just a young girl, and you think you’re in love, but the moment you try to get away, that person you trusted turns into something dark and ugly. That’s what happened to poor Natalie. She had been with Kevin for two whole years, on and off like those seasons we get in the hills—sometimes hot, sometimes cold, and never steady. But after that stabbing, there was no more ‘on again’. She was done. And that, I reckon, was the turning point for her.
Now, there’s a lot more to this story, ‘cause even after that horrid attack, Kevin’s family didn’t want to believe what he done. They kept on defendin’ him, saying he wasn’t all bad, and pointing out his good qualities. Well, that don’t make a lick of sense to me. If you hurt someone that bad, there ain’t no “good” left in ya, not for me, anyway. They might’ve been tryin’ to see the good in him, but let’s be real, some things you just can’t undo, no matter how hard you try to hide ‘em.
It took years, but eventually, Kevin Bullock got what he deserved. They sentenced him to 35 years in prison for his crimes. I know, I know, it don’t seem like enough, but maybe it’ll keep him from hurtin’ anyone else. His parents, well, they had to face the truth eventually. And Natalie, well, she got her own sense of justice, even if it came late. I can’t say how long it’ll take for her to heal from all that pain, but I sure hope she’s doin’ better now.
Sometimes life don’t make sense, you know? People think they can love ya and then turn around and hurt ya worse than anyone ever could. But that don’t mean ya should give up. Natalie didn’t. She made it through, and here she is, tellin’ her story, tryin’ to help other folks who might be stuck in similar situations. I reckon that’s somethin’ to be proud of. No matter what Kevin did or what his family thinks, the truth is out there, and now, Natalie don’t have to keep hidin’ in the shadows no more.
Now, I ain’t no expert in law or any of them big words, but I know right from wrong. And what Kevin did? That was wrong. I hope he spends every single day thinkin’ about what he done, ‘cause I reckon there’s no real forgiveness for such a thing. As for Natalie, well, I hope she keeps goin’ strong. She’s a fighter, and I admire that.
