Okay, so the other day, I was in the mood for a good, steamy drama, you know, something with a little bit of tension. I remembered Unfaithful with Diane Lane and Olivier Martinez, and how much I loved that movie back in the day. So, I decided I wanted to find something similar. Here’s what I did:
First, I just straight-up googled “movies similar to Unfaithful”. I mean, that’s the obvious first step, right? The results? Meh. A bunch of lists, some obvious choices, some not-so-obvious. It wasn’t really giving me what I was looking for.
Digging a Little Deeper
So, I started thinking about what I actually liked about Unfaithful. It wasn’t just the, ahem, passionate scenes. It was the whole setup: a seemingly perfect marriage, a chance encounter, the slow burn of temptation, and then the devastating consequences.

I refined my search. I tried things like “movies about affairs and consequences” and “psychological thrillers marital infidelity”. This started yielding better results. I started seeing some recurring titles:
- Match Point: I’d seen this one before, and yeah, it definitely fits the bill. Woody Allen, so you know it’s going to be a little quirky, but the core themes are there.
- Closer: Another one I’d seen. Super intense, with a great cast. All about the messy, ugly side of relationships.
- Fatal Attraction: Okay, this one is a classic, but it’s a little more on the “thriller” side than the “drama” side. Still, the obsession and the consequences are definitely there.
Making My Choice
After browsing through some trailers and reviews, I decided to go with something I hadn’t seen before: Little Children, starring Kate Winslet and Patrick Wilson. The reviews were talking about suburban ennui, forbidden desires, and the dark underbelly of seemingly perfect lives. Sounded right up my alley!
The Verdict
I watched it last night, and it was pretty good! Not quite as steamy as Unfaithful, but definitely captured that same feeling of simmering tension and the slow unraveling of a marriage. Kate Winslet is amazing, as always. So, mission accomplished! I found a movie that scratched that Unfaithful itch. If anyone else has suggestions, I would love to try more movies!
