So, the other day I was browsing around, trying to find something new to watch, you know, after I just finished “The Tearsmith.” That movie really got to me, with all its dark romance and mystery. I was like, “I need more of this!” So, I started digging around to see what else was out there that’s similar.
First, I went straight to Letterboxd. I figured, if anyone knows about movies, it’s those folks. I typed in “The Tearsmith” and started scrolling through the “similar films” section. There were tons listed, like 60 or something! I made a note to check out a few that popped up repeatedly.
Then, I remembered this site called Filmaffinity. It’s pretty cool because it lets you rate movies and get recommendations based on your taste. I created an account, rated a bunch of movies I’d seen, including “The Tearsmith,” and then waited to see what it would suggest. The results were interesting, a mix of classics and some I’d never heard of.
My Watchlist
- The Notebook – I know, I know, it’s a classic, but I’ve somehow never seen it.
- Titanic – Another classic that I’ve been meaning to watch.
- When Harry Met Sally – This one seems a bit lighter, but still in that romantic vein.
I also stumbled upon MovieLens, which is another recommendation site. It’s a bit more involved because you build a profile based on your ratings. I spent a good chunk of time rating movies, hoping it would give me some solid recommendations. It did point me to a couple of indie romance films that looked promising.
After all that searching, I realized something. A lot of these recommended movies focus on relationships and melodrama, just like “The Tearsmith” and even “Twilight.” That’s probably what I love about them, that emotional rollercoaster. Also I find out there is no sequel of “The Tearsmith”. I don’t know how to describe my feeling.
I ended up making a big list of movies to watch, some based on true stories, like “Soul Surfer” and “Hacksaw Ridge” which I found on Netflix. Those are known for being real tearjerkers, so I’m preparing myself for an emotional ride. I’m excited to dive into these and see if they hit the spot like “The Tearsmith” did. Movie nights, here I come!
