Okay, so, I just finished watching “Red, White & Royal Blue” and, oh boy, I’m obsessed! It was such a fun, heartwarming, and surprisingly emotional ride. I really enjoyed it, so naturally, I wanted more of that good stuff. So I started digging around the internet, trying to find movies that gave me the same vibes.
First off, I went on a hunt for other LGBTQ+ rom-coms because, let’s be honest, who doesn’t love a good gay romance? I immediately came across “Love, Simon”, that’s the most relevant one I think. I remembered hearing about this movie before, it is said to be fun, colorful and bright, and it seems like it fits the bill perfectly.
Then I started thinking about the whole “enemies to lovers” thing, and that led me down a rabbit hole of classic rom-coms. I found some interesting movies like “First Daughter” which was released in 2004. It seems like a perfect young adult rom-com, and I will definitely watch it after this exploration.
Another movie called “Maurice” popped up and it looked interesting but not exactly what I was looking for. “Maurice” sets in pre-World War I society and tells a story of coming to terms with sexuality. This sounds pretty cool, however, I was looking for a movie that is more lighthearted and romantic like “Red, White & Royal Blue”, so I put it on the back burner.
Next, I was thinking, maybe there are some movies with a similar political backdrop? But that turned out to be a dead end. Most political movies are way too serious and not romantic at all. There were a couple of suggestions like “The Godfather” and “The Shawshank Redemption,” but those are totally different genres! I mean, they’re great movies, but not what I’m looking for right now. They are not even close to “Red, White & Royal Blue”.
I also looked into some general lists of movies similar to “Red, White & Royal Blue”, and there are many. One website said there are 72 films similar to Red, which sounds incredible. I don’t know when I would have the time to watch them all, but I’m not gonna say no to more options! Also, “Call Me by Your Name” caught my eye. I added it to my list, too. This one is a must-watch!
- Love, Simon
- First Daughter
- Maurice
- Call Me by Your Name
So, that’s where I am right now. I’ve got a few solid options, but I’m still on the lookout for more. If you have watched “Red, White & Royal Blue” and found similar movies, please let me know! I’d love to hear your recommendations!
