Okay, so the other day I was really in the mood for a good thriller, something that would keep me on the edge of my seat. I remembered how much I loved “Phone Booth” back in the day – that whole concept of being trapped and helpless, with the tension just ratcheting up… So I thought, “Let’s find some movies that give off that same vibe!”
My Search Begins
First, I fired up my trusty old laptop and started just Googling stuff like “movies similar to Phone Booth” and “thrillers like Phone Booth.” You know, the basic stuff. I got a bunch of lists, some forum discussions, and a few articles, but nothing really felt personal or, you know, like someone actually watched these movies.
Diving Deeper
So, I started to refine my searches. I began to consider what, specifically, I wanted to find, I was looking for more of that claustrophobic feeling, so I added keywords like “confined spaces” and “single location.” I also wanted that sense of constant threat, so I added words like “real-time” and “high stakes.”

Making a List and Sorting it
I made a list of the movies. I used my favourite notepad and start to writing the movies I found.
I sorted the list by relevance. I moved the most relevant movies to the top.
- Buried (2010)-This one kept popping up. It’s about a truck driver in Iraq who gets buried alive in a coffin. Super intense, and definitely fits the “trapped” bill.
- Locke (2013)– All about that. This movie is almost entirely a guy driving and talking on the phone.
- The Guilty (2018)-This is about a police dispatcher who gets a call from a kidnapped woman, it is danish movie.
- Cellular (2004)– A classic! A woman gets kidnapped, and some random dude gets her desperate call on his cell.
Watching the Movies
Then, I started working my way through the list, the fun part and watch these movies. It took me several days to watch all the movies on my list.
My Personal Filter
After grabbing some snacks and starting with the list, I find “Buried” and “The Guilty” are definitely worth checking out if you liked “Phone Booth.” They have that same feeling of desperation and limited options. “Locke” is great too, more of a slow burn, but still super engaging. “Cellular” is a bit more action-packed, but still has that connection to phones and a race against time.
So yeah, that was my little movie-hunting adventure. I definitely recommend anyone, just go for it, grab some popcorn, and get ready to be stressed out (in a good way, of course!).
