Okay, so I’ve been on this huge movie kick lately, trying to find flicks that really grab you and don’t let go. I loved Apocalypto, that movie was intense! So, I wanted to find more like it. Here’s how I went about my search.
Digging for Gold (or, You Know, Similar Movies)
First, I jumped onto Google. Just typed in “movies similar to Apocalypto”. Pretty basic, right? I got a bunch of lists, some good, some… not so much.
I started clicking through some of the suggestions. A lot of them were historical epics, which made sense. But Apocalypto has this specific vibe – it’s brutal, it’s fast-paced, and it’s got this element of survival against the odds. So, I needed to filter through those lists carefully.

- I looked for movies with similar settings. Apocalypto is set in the Mayan civilization, so I was interested in anything pre-Columbian Americas or even just other ancient cultures.
- I also focused on the action and survival aspects. I wasn’t really looking for a history lesson; I wanted something thrilling!
- It also should be directed by Mel Gibson, I thought.
What I Found (and What I Thought)
After going down a few rabbit holes (and watching a couple of trailers), I narrowed it down to a few that seemed promising:
- First One,I get The * movie,seems great.
- And I found The Last of the Mohicans, and watched the * great, too.
I ended up watching The New World first, I would watch it sooner or later.
So, that’s where I’m at! It’s been a fun little project, and it’s definitely given me some new movies to add to my watchlist. It’s always cool to find something new based on something you already love. I’ll probably keep digging, too – there’s gotta be more gems out there!
