You know, that “The Lost Daughter,” that movie, it got me thinking. Reminded me of some other movies I seen before. Lots of folks are looking for movies like The Lost Daughter, so I thought I’d just tell you about some that kinda feel the same. Ain’t no fancy talk here, just plain old me telling you what I think.
That “The Lost Daughter,” it’s about this lady, Leda, see? She goes on a vacation, like a holiday, and things get all mixed up. She sees this young mama, Nina, and her little girl, and it just brings up all sorts of stuff for her. She does some things, like, you know, that doll thing? She stole a doll! Lord have mercy. And that Nina, she is with some other fella that is not her husband. Reminded me of the time when my cousin Betty….well never mind that. It’s a whole mess, that movie. But it makes you think, you know? About being a mama and all that.
So, if you liked that one, here are a few others you might like, too:
- Ordinary People: This one, oh, it’s a sad one. It’s about a family, and they got all sorts of problems. Like, real problems. It’s an old one, from like, 1980 or something, but it sticks with you. If you want something to make you cry, this is it. It’s based on some book, I don’t recall the name. It is just like real life you know.
- Something about Dakota Johnson: Now, this one I don’t remember the name, but that girl from “The Lost Daughter”, Dakota Johnson, she’s in it. She is the young mama, you see. She always plays in some sad movies. If you like her, go look it up. I just don’t remember all those movie names.
- One about a lady and her kids: There’s another one, I saw it a while back, about a mama and her kids. They weren’t getting along so well, I reckon. Lots of yelling and crying in that one, too. It just shows you that being a mama ain’t easy. You gotta make hard choices sometimes. It’s like planting, sometimes you gotta pull some weeds to make the good stuff grow.
These movies, they ain’t all happy and sunshine, you know? They’re like that “The Lost Daughter” one, they make you think. They show you that life ain’t always easy, especially for mamas. They got a lot on their plates, you know? Like, trying to keep the house clean, and feed the kids, and sometimes they just need a break. Just like Leda in that movie, she just needed a little time to herself. But then all that drama happened.
The main lady in that movie, Olivia Colman, she’s a good actress. She can make you feel all the things her character is feeling. And Maggie Gyllenhaal, she’s the one who made the movie. She did a good job, I reckon. Even if the movie is a little bit, you know, slow. It takes its time, like a good stew, gotta let it simmer.
That “The Lost Daughter,” it was on that Netflix thing. Lots of folks watch movies on there now. You can find all sorts of things on there. It’s like a big old library, but with moving pictures. And they had it in some theaters, too, I think. I don’t go to the theaters much anymore, my old bones don’t like those seats. And that other one, Ordinary People, was popular on there too, I think. It is just too many of these things now, Netflix, Amazon.
I remember seeing it at the Venice film festival, you know that place with all the water and boats, I saw it on the TV. That Maggie got some sort of prize for the movie. Golden Osella or something. You know how those award shows are, all fancy and such. I don’t really keep up with that, to be honest. I’d rather be in my garden.
You know, sometimes these movies, they just hit you in the gut. They remind you of your own life, your own family. Maybe you had a mama like Leda, or maybe you are a mama like her. It’s all just part of life, I guess. The good and the bad. Just like that movie, it’s a little bit of both.
These are just some similar movies to The Lost Daughter, you know. There are probably lots of others. But these are the ones that stuck with me. If you are looking for something else, well, just try those online movie places. You will find something for sure. I hope you find something you like. Just remember, these ain’t always happy movies. They’re about real life, and real life ain’t always a picnic. But they are good, in their own way. Like a good, strong cup of coffee, sometimes it’s a little bitter, but it wakes you up.
