Okay, so I’ve been on this kick lately of finding movies that really grab you, you know? Like, movies that are intense and historical, kinda like “Apocalypto.” That movie blew my mind, so I wanted to see what else was out there that could give me that same feeling. Here’s how I went looking.
My Quest for Intense Historical Flicks
First, I jumped onto Google. Just a simple search: “movies similar to Apocalypto”. I figured, why not start with the basics, right?
The first list that caught my eye was like, a mess. No way to describe how similar any of the movies they listed, were, so I skipped over that list.

Then I hit up some movie forums. I love these because it’s real people talking, not just some algorithm. I found a couple of threads where people were asking the same thing as me! Score!
- One person suggested “The Revenant.” That was the next movie on my list.
- Someone else mentioned “10,000 BC,” but a few others chimed in and said it wasn’t that great. I might check it out later, but it wasn’t a priority.
- “Last of the Mohicans” another user recommended.
Digging Deeper
I decided to be a bit more specific. I wanted movies with a similar setting or theme. So, I started searching for things like “movies about ancient civilizations” and “historical survival movies.”
This helped me narrow things down a bit. I added a few more titles to my list, like “Quest for Fire” (super old, but apparently a classic) and some documentaries about Mayan culture.
Making My Watchlist
I ended up with a pretty solid list. The next step is to find my favorites! I might update this later with my reviews after I start the movie marathon!
