Okay, so I was trying to find some movies like “Under the Silver Lake” because, man, that movie really got me hooked with its whole mystery vibe. I started off just messing around, typing stuff into Google, you know, the usual “movies like under the silver lake” and similar phrases.
I stumbled upon this website called Letterboxd. It’s apparently made by some movie fans, and they listed a bunch of films they thought were similar. They had like 64 of them. Sixty-four! That’s a lot of movies to sift through. But hey, it was a start, right?
Then, I thought, “Why not check out what’s popular on streaming services?” So, I poked around on Netflix, iTunes, and Amazon, looking for movies that gave off that same kind of mysterious detective feel. You know, where the main guy is trying to solve some big puzzle. There are actually a bunch of movies that fit that description, but not all of them really hit the same spot as “Under the Silver Lake.”
I also found this other website, Filmaffinity. It’s like a place where you can rate movies and get recommendations. Plus, people can make lists and write reviews. It seemed pretty cool, a good way to get a feel for what other people thought about these kinds of movies. I figured it was worth a shot to see what kind of suggestions it would give me.
While digging around on forums, I saw someone mention “Blue Velvet” as a good one to watch if you’re just getting into these kinds of movies, especially if you liked the style of “Silver Lake.” They said it was a bit easier to follow but still pretty crazy. - Southland Tales – Sounds pretty out there, maybe one to watch after you’ve seen a few others.
- Loads of detective movies – Many of these are on the streaming services, but they might not all have that same unique feeling.
Anyway, that’s where I’m at now. I’ve got a bunch of potential movies to check out. It’s kind of overwhelming, but also exciting. Hopefully, I can find a few that really capture that same magic.
