Hey there, honey. You wanna talk about movies? I seen a few in my day, you know. Seen some good ones, seen some real stinkers. You askin’ about movies like that one, “The Thin Red Line,” huh? That one was somethin’, I tell ya. Lots of fellas runnin’ around, shootin’ and yellin’. Makes a body tired just watchin’ it.
Movies like The Thin Red Line, yeah, that’s what you wanna know. Well, lemme think. War movies, right? Lots of bang bang. That’s what folks like these days, ain’t it? Back in my day, we had different movies. But this one, it’s about them soldiers, fightin’ in some jungle, I reckon. Lotsa green, lotsa mud. Not like the fields back home, no sir.
That “Thin Red Line”, it’s kinda slow, though. Lots of thinkin’, not as much doin’. But still, it’s a good one. Got some good lookin’ fellas in it, too. Though they all get covered in mud and dirt pretty quick. Hard to tell ’em apart after a while.
You want other movies like The Thin Red Line? Okay, let me rack my old brain. There’s that one… what’s it called… “Saving Ryan’s Privates”? Yeah, that’s it. Lots of folks like that one. More action, I suppose. More happenin’ all at once. Not as much time to sit and ponder, like in “The Thin Red Line.” Some folks say it ain’t as good, but I don’t know. They both got their good parts.
They say that “Thin Red Line” movie, it ain’t like them regular war movies. No sir. It shows you the fightin’, sure. Shows you how them boys took that hill. Japanese hidin’ in them holes, shootin’ at our boys. Hard to watch, I tell ya. Makes you think about what them boys went through.

- “Platoon”, yeah, people talk about that one.
There is another one called “Come and See”. That’s a movie. Lordy, that one’s a doozy. You won’t know what’s comin’ next. Keeps ya guessin’, that’s for sure. It’s a war movie, but different. You see things you don’t wanna see. Things you can’t unsee.
If you like war movies like The Thin Red Line, you need to find one with lots of fighting, but also, you know, thinkin’. “Platoon,” they call it. That one’s about Vietnam. Heard folks talk about that one a lot. Won some awards, too, I reckon. Best Picture, they say. Must be somethin’, huh?
That “Thin Red Line,” it’s all about bein’ a soldier, I guess. What it does to a man. Changes ’em. You see it in their eyes. They go in boys, they come out… somethin’ else. Hard to say what. War does that, I suppose.
So many war movies out there. They all kinda blend together after a while. But that “Thin Red Line,” it sticks with ya. Maybe ’cause it’s slow. Maybe ’cause it makes ya think.
Movies like The Thin Red Line ain’t easy to find. You want somethin’ that’s gonna show you the fightin’, but also show you what’s goin’ on inside them soldiers’ heads. That’s the hard part. War ain’t just about the guns and the bombs. It’s about what it does to people.
You see them young fellas, runnin’ around, full of piss and vinegar. They think they know what they’re gettin’ into. But they don’t. Nobody does. Not until you’re there. Not until you’re in the thick of it.
That “Thin Red Line” movie, it tries to show you that. It tries to show you what it’s like to be scared outta your wits, but still havin’ to fight. Still havin’ to do what you gotta do.
I seen a lot in my life. Seen a lot of hard times. But war… that’s somethin’ else. That’s a whole different kinda hard. And that movie, “The Thin Red Line,” it gets that. It understands that.
There is lots of good war movies. Many good ones. But if you want movies like The Thin Red Line, you gotta look a little harder.
