Okay, so the other day I was trying to find some movies that are kind of like “Enemy at the Gates,” you know? That movie is pretty cool, based on a true story about a Russian sniper, Vassili Zaitsev, during World War II. It’s all about the Battle of Stalingrad, which is something you don’t see in a lot of Western movies.
I started by searching on the web, and I found out there are like 80 films that are supposed to be similar. Can you believe it? Eighty! I used this site called “Letterboxd,” which apparently is made by some movie fans in New Zealand. They pull their movie data from this other site, TMDb. It’s all pretty neat.
One of the first movies that popped up was “Saving Private Ryan.” I mean, that’s a classic, right? Everyone’s seen that one. It’s also set during World War II, but it’s more about the American side of things. Still, it’s a great movie, no doubt.
Then I dug a little deeper and found this other film, “Attack and Retreat” from 1966. It’s supposed to be a really intense depiction of the Nazi invasion of Russia. I haven’t seen it yet, but it sounds like it’s worth checking out if you’re into that kind of historical war stuff.
I also stumbled upon this forum where people were making movie suggestions. Some guy was asking for movies similar to “Enemy at the Gates,” and another person recommended “Lone Survivor.” I haven’t watched that, but the person mentioned that it’s a rough and emotional movie.
This whole search also led me to this other website where you can explore the careers of tons of directors, actors, and actresses. It even tells you what’s new on Netflix and HBO MAX. It’s a pretty cool resource if you’re a movie buff like me.
Here’s a quick list of what I gathered:
- Saving Private Ryan: A classic WWII movie, focusing on the American perspective.
- Attack and Retreat (1966): A harrowing account of the Nazi invasion of Russia.
- Lone Survivor: Apparently, it’s a rough and emotional movie, maybe similar in intensity to “Enemy at the Gates.”
So yeah, that’s what I’ve been up to lately. Trying to find some good war movies to watch. It’s pretty amazing how many films are out there that you never even heard of. It’s like a whole universe of stories just waiting to be discovered. If you have watched any of these or have some other suggestions, feel free to let me know. I’m always open to good recommendations!
