Alright, so I’ve been on this HUGE nostalgia kick lately, right? I used to be obsessed with MapleStory back in the day. The cute characters, the grind, the social aspect… man, those were the days. But I’ve moved on, kinda, and I wanted something like it, but, you know, different. So I started digging around to find some MMORPG games similar to mapleStory.
First, I jumped onto Google. Just typed in “MMORPGs like MapleStory” and, boom, tons of forums and articles popped up. Lots of people with the same itch as me, it seems!
My Deep Dive Research
I spent a good few hours just reading through recommendations. I made a list of games that sounded promising, focusing on ones that had:
- 2D or 2.5D graphics (gotta have that side-scrolling goodness!)
- A strong emphasis on social interaction and guilds.
- A decent amount of character customization.
- Classes, lots and lots of classes and sub classes.
I narrowed down my list to a handful that kept popping up:
- Tree of Savior.
- La Tale.
- Soul Saver Online.
Then I just went full into download-and-try mode. I picked up Soul Saver Online, because it’s free and I found its art style is cute.
I spent the next week just playing as many of these games as I could. I created characters, joined some guilds (when I could), and just tried to get a feel for the gameplay loop. It felt like I just play MapleStory again.
I didn’t find the game to replace MapleStory at last, But it’s so good to have these similar feelings with the old days.
