Love The Florida Project? You Need to Check Out These Similar Movies!

Alright, so I wanted to find some movies that gave me the same vibe as “The Florida Project.” You know, that raw, slice-of-life feel, showing the struggles of folks on the fringes of society. So, I dove in, ready to do some serious movie watching.

First, I racked my brain for movies I’d already seen that felt similar. “Tangerine” came to mind, since it’s also directed by Sean Baker and has that same kind of gritty realism. I also thought about “American Honey,” which has a similar focus on marginalized youth, but in a more road-trip kind of way. So those two were definitely going on my list.

Next, I hit up some of my go-to movie sites, you know the usual suspects, to see what they recommended. I just typed in “The Florida Project” and checked out the “similar movies” sections. One movie that kept popping up was “Fish Tank,” a British film about a troubled teenage girl. Sounded right up my alley, so I added it to the list.

Then, I thought, why not ask around? I posted on a couple of movie forums and asked for suggestions. I got a bunch of responses, which was cool. Someone mentioned “Gomorrah,” an Italian film about organized crime. It’s a bit darker than “The Florida Project,” but it definitely has that same focus on people living on the edges. I figured, why not? Into the list it went.

I also stumbled upon this movie called “The Fits” while browsing through a list of indie films. It’s about a young girl who joins a dance team, and it’s supposed to be really good. It didn’t immediately scream “Florida Project,” but it seemed to have a similar focus on childhood and coming of age, so I decided to give it a shot.

After all that searching and asking, I ended up with a pretty solid list of movies to check out. Here’s what I came up with:

  • Tangerine
  • American Honey
  • Fish Tank
  • Gomorrah
  • The Fits

My Watchlist

Now, I just gotta find the time to watch all of these. I’m thinking I’ll start with “Fish Tank” since it was recommended so many times. Then, maybe I’ll move on to “Gomorrah” for something a little different. And I’ll definitely squeeze in “The Fits” at some point, ’cause it just sounds too interesting to pass up.

It’s gonna be a bit of a movie marathon, but I’m excited to discover some new films. Hopefully, they’ll give me that same feeling I got from “The Florida Project” – that feeling of seeing the world through a different lens, of understanding the lives of people who are often overlooked.
