Okay, so the other day, I was thinking about that movie, “Erin Brockovich.” You know, the one where Julia Roberts plays this tough single mom who takes down a big corporation? It got me thinking, what other movies are out there that are kind of like that? So, I started digging around.
First, I went straight to Google. I typed in something like “movies similar to Erin Brockovich” and a whole bunch of stuff popped up. Lots of lists, articles, you name it. Some of them mentioned these websites called “Letterboxd” and “Filmaffinity.” Never heard of them before, but hey, new things, right?
- Letterboxd, turns out, is like this social network for movie buffs. People make lists of movies they like, write reviews, all that jazz. I found a list there that had like 66 movies that were supposedly similar to “Erin Brockovich.” That’s a lot!
- Filmaffinity was another one. It’s kind of the same deal – people rate movies, make lists, and all that. It seemed pretty cool.
Then I checked out the usual suspects, you know, Netflix, Amazon, iTunes. I figured they’d have some recommendations based on what other people watched after “Erin Brockovich.”
I also stumbled upon some discussions where people were talking about movies with strong female leads, kind of like Erin. That got me thinking about the whole “underdog fighting against the odds” theme. I mean, that’s what makes “Erin Brockovich” so good, right?
I read some reviews, too. One person compared this other movie called “Dark Waters” to “Erin Brockovich.” They said it was kind of the same idea but with Mark Ruffalo instead of Julia Roberts. Apparently, it’s based on a true story, which is always interesting. Someone else mentioned “Spotlight” as a good comparison. I haven’t seen that one yet.
Putting It All Together
So, after all that digging, I made my own little list. I haven’t seen all of these yet, but they’re definitely on my radar now. I figured, if they’ve got that same vibe of someone fighting for justice, or empowering stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things, then they’re probably worth checking out. I jotted down the names, made a few notes about what they’re about. It wasn’t anything fancy, just enough to remind me what caught my eye.
It’s funny, you start looking for one thing, and you end up down this whole rabbit hole of other stuff. But hey, that’s how you discover new things, right? Now I’ve got a bunch of movies to add to my watchlist. And who knows, maybe I’ll find a new favorite in there.
