So, I was trying to find some movies that are kind of like “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” the other day. You know, that action-packed, spy-couple kind of vibe. I started off just by doing a quick Google search. Typed in “movies similar to Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and hit enter.
Google gave me a bunch of results, as it always does. I saw some lists on different websites, and one of them mentioned “True Lies” from 1994, directed by James Cameron. That sounded promising, so I jotted it down.
Then, I remembered there are some specialized film search engines out there. I think I used one called… um… Filmaffinity? Yeah, that was it. I went there and searched for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” to see what it would suggest.
- Filmaffinity – This site seemed pretty cool. It’s like a social network for movie lovers, where you can rate movies, make lists, and write reviews.
I also decided to check out IMDb. It’s like the granddaddy of movie databases, right? I figured I could search for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” and then maybe look at the filmographies of the actors or the director to find similar stuff. I didn’t find anything on IMDb.
- IMDb – It’s a massive database with tons of info. I usually use it to find details about a specific movie.
Someone also told me about sites like Criticker, TasteKid, and Filmaster. They said these sites give recommendations based on what other users with similar tastes liked. And then there were Jinni and ClerkDogs, which are supposed to give more personalized recommendations. I decided to test it out with TasteKid and Movielens
- TasteKid – Seemed interesting. It recommends movies based on the community’s preference, but it gave me nothing.
- Movielens – Gave me a few recommendations but it is not that user-friendly.
While browsing, I stumbled upon a site called Letterboxd. It mentioned that there are 75 films similar to “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” They even mentioned that their film data comes from TMDb.
- Letterboxd – This one is more like a social media site for movie buffs.
I also saw some suggestions to check out Netflix and Amazon to see what they recommend in their “similar movies” sections. I took a peek, but nothing really caught my eye.
Oh, and I almost forgot! One of the search results mentioned a movie called “Allied” from 2016, directed by Robert Zemeckis. I haven’t seen it, but it sounds like it might have a similar feel to “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.”
So yeah, that’s how I spent my afternoon – hunting for movies. I found a few potential candidates, but I’ve got a lot more digging to do.
