Howdy, folks! You know, watchin’ movies is a real nice way to pass the time, especially when yer old bones can’t be doin’ much else. I just saw this here movie, “The Hateful Eight,” and it got me thinkin’. It reminded me of a whole bunch of other pictures I’ve seen over the years, you know, the ones with all the shootin’ and hollerin’ and folks locked up together like chickens in a coop.
So, if you liked “The Hateful Eight,” same as me, you might be lookin’ for some more movies just like it. Well, let me tell you, there’s plenty out there. This here “Hateful Eight,” it ain’t the only one of its kind, not by a long shot. It’s what they call a “Western,” I think, with lots of snow and mean-lookin’ fellers. And let me tell you, that ain’t the half of it.
Movies that make you think, and maybe jump a little
First off, there’s this movie called “The Thing.” Now, that one’s a real doozy. It’s about a bunch of fellers stuck in the cold, just like in “The Hateful Eight,” but this time, there’s somethin’ else out there, somethin’ scary. It ain’t just people they gotta worry about, it’s somethin’ that can look like anybody, and that’s a real fright, let me tell ya. They say “The Hateful Eight” got some ideas from this one, and I can see why. All that suspicion and nobody trustin’ nobody, it’s the same kinda feelin’.
Then there’s them movies based on plays, like them fancy folks in the city watch. You know, the ones where everyone’s talkin’ and arguin’ in one room? “The Hateful Eight” is kinda like that too, ain’t it? All them characters cooped up in that cabin, jabberin’ at each other. So, if you like that sort of thing, look for movies that started out as plays. They usually got good stories and strong characters, just like “The Hateful Eight”.

Movies about revenge and bad folks
Now, some folks say “The Hateful Eight” is kinda like that “Django” movie. I ain’t seen that one, but I hear it’s about a fella gettin’ even. And that makes sense, ’cause “The Hateful Eight” has got some of that revenge stuff in it too. Seems like everybody’s got a secret and a reason to be mad. So, if you like movies about folks gettin’ their due, you might wanna look for them revenge pictures.
There’s this other movie idea where some fella comes back home after a long time, and he’s got somethin’ on his mind, somethin’ he needs to settle. It’s kinda like “The Hateful Eight” where everyone’s got a past and it’s all catchin’ up to ‘em. This fella, though, he ain’t no professional killer or nothin’, more like a regular fella pushed too far. You know, the kind that just wants to set things right, even if it means doin’ somethin’ he ain’t proud of. These movies, they got that same kinda tension as “The Hateful Eight,” where you’re just waitin’ for the other shoe to drop.
And let’s not forget them movies about a whole bunch of outlaws or misfits gettin’ together. Sometimes they’re workin’ together, sometimes they’re tryin’ to kill each other, but it’s always excitin’. “The Hateful Eight” is like that, ain’t it? A whole mess of folks you wouldn’t trust with a plugged nickel, all stuck together. They say it’s like that old movie “The Magnificent Seven,” but meaner and crazier. And that “Seven Samurai” one from way back when. Same kinda idea, but different settin’.
Why we like these kinds of movies
I reckon we like these kinds of movies ‘cause they’re excitin’. They keep you guessin’ and you never know what’s gonna happen next. And they’re about people, real people, even if they’re doin’ bad things. You can understand why they’re doin’ what they’re doin’, even if you don’t agree with it. And that’s what makes a good story, ain’t it? Somethin’ that makes you think and feel, even if it’s just for a little while. “The Hateful Eight” did that for me, and I bet it did for you too. And that’s why we go lookin’ for more just like it.
So, there you have it. A whole bunch of movies that are kinda like “The Hateful Eight”. If you liked that one, you’ll probably like these too. Just remember to get yourself some popcorn and a comfy seat, ’cause you’re in for a ride. And who knows, maybe you’ll find a new favorite amongst them. Movies are a wonderful thing, ain’t they? They can take you anywhere, even if you’re just sittin’ in your own living room.
