So, I’ve always been a big fan of David Lynch’s “Mulholland Drive.” It’s one of those movies that just sticks with you, you know? The mystery, the weirdness, the whole vibe. I found myself wanting more of that same feeling. So, I decided to get some similar movies like that and watch it.

First, I tried searching online. I just typed “movies similar to Mulholland Drive” into Google. That gave me a bunch of random lists and articles. It looked like there are a lot of films that are similar to it. I think one of the results showed 72 films that are similar to it. Can you believe it? 72 films! It’s kind of a lot, I know. Anyway, I started to look around more to see if I can narrow it down.

I found out that there’s a movie called “Wicker Park” and it stars Rose Byrn and Josh Hartnett. I watched the trailer and it looked interesting. It gave me the same vibe as “Mulholland Drive,” and so I decided to watch it. It was good, but it wasn’t really what I was looking for. It did not really have that same eerie feeling that “Mulholland Drive” had, but it was still a good watch!

Then, I went on some forums to see what other people were saying. Someone mentioned “Nocturnal Animals.” They said it explores the line between fantasy and reality, kind of like “Mulholland Drive” and another Lynch film, “Inland Empire.” I haven’t seen that last one, but the comparison got me interested. I tried to watch it but, unfortunately, I fell asleep about halfway through. Maybe I was just really tired. I’ll probably give it another shot some other time.

I also checked out a site, Letterboxd, that’s like a social network for movie lovers. They had a bunch of lists about “Mulholland Drive” – some people even had lists of over 1,000 similar movies! I saw some familiar titles on there, like “Possession” and “Come and See.” I’ve seen snippets of those movies, and they definitely seem like they have a similar vibe. But I didn’t have time to watch them all, obviously. Some people even said that “Mulholland Drive” is a bad movie, can you believe that?

I dug a little deeper and learned that “Mulholland Drive” itself was probably inspired by older films like “Sunset Boulevard” and “Persona.” That made sense, especially the “Sunset Boulevard” connection. The road, Sunset Boulevard, even makes a few appearances in “Mulholland Drive” and it does have that classic noir feel to it.

I realized that finding a movie that’s exactly like “Mulholland Drive” might be impossible. It’s such a unique film. It’s like, you know how they say that David Lynch’s style is so unique that they call it “Lynchian”? It’s true! Some people say it’s all dreamy and surreal, others just think it’s confusing. Honestly, it’s a bit of both, like a weird, beautiful nightmare that you can’t quite understand but also can’t forget.

  • Tried searching online for similar movies.
  • Watched “Wicker Park” – it was okay, but not quite the same.
  • Checked out forums and found “Nocturnal Animals” – fell asleep, though.
  • Explored Letterboxd and saw tons of suggestions, including “Possession” and “Come and See.”
  • Learned about “Mulholland Drive’s” possible influences like “Sunset Boulevard” and “Persona.”

So, yeah, my search for the perfect “Mulholland Drive” substitute continues. I guess I’ll just have to keep exploring and see what I find. Maybe I’ll revisit some of those suggestions or just watch “Mulholland Drive” again! It’s one of those movies you can watch a million times and still find something new, you know?
