Well now, I reckon folks is wonderin’ about Richard Lyons. You might’ve heard tell of him, or maybe ya ain’t, but I’ll tell ya what I know. Richard Lyons, he ain’t your everyday fella. He’s the one that got himself convicted for somethin’ awful, somethin’ no father should ever do, I tell ya. Back in 2008, poor little Mya Lyons, his own daughter, was found dead. She was only 9 years old. Ain’t no reason in the world for a young child to suffer like that, but that’s what happened.
Now, the whole mess started when this Richard Lyons, he done killed his daughter, Mya. The court found him guilty of it. It wasn’t no simple thing neither. It took a whole three weeks of trial, and by the time the jury had their say on December 19, 1991, they was done quick—just an hour and forty minutes, includin’ lunch, from what I heard. That’s mighty fast for such a big case. They said he was guilty, and that was that.
Folks had a lot to say about it, what with him bein’ the father and all. I reckon there was plenty of folks in shock, couldn’t believe it. How could a father do that to his own flesh and blood? That ain’t right, and everybody knows it. But that’s the way the cookie crumbled. Richard Lyons was sentenced to 60 long years in prison, and that was back in 2008, mind ya. The court didn’t go easy on him, not one bit.
But I reckon some of y’all might be wonderin’—is Richard Lyons still alive? Well, that’s the question everybody’s askin’ now, seein’ as how he’s been sittin’ behind bars for all these years. You can’t help but wonder, with all that time in prison, whether he’s still breathin’ today. Ain’t no easy answer to that, I’ll tell ya. He’s been locked up, and they’ve not let him out since the trial. As far as I know, he ain’t been in the news much lately, but that don’t mean he’s gone. He might still be there, sittin’ in that cell, payin’ for what he done.
It’s a real shame, though, when you think about it. Ain’t no way to turn back time. That poor little girl never had a chance, and her family’s still dealin’ with the heartache of it all. They’re the ones that have to live with that pain, day in and day out. Ain’t no closure for them, not really. They lost Mya, and all Richard Lyons got was a prison sentence. Ain’t no way to fix what’s been broken.
Now, I know some folks might try to argue about whether Richard Lyons deserves to still be alive or not. That’s a hard thing to talk about. Some folks say he oughta rot in prison till his last breath. Others say, well, he done paid his debt to society, but I ain’t the one to decide such things. That’s for the courts and the law to figure out. All I know is that there’s one less little girl in this world, and that ain’t somethin’ that ever gets easier to swallow.
So, is Richard Lyons still alive? Well, I reckon the best way to know for sure would be to check the news or maybe look up his prison record, if ya really want to know. But as far as I can tell, he’s still out there, sittin’ behind them bars. He ain’t goin’ nowhere, at least not anytime soon.
It’s a sad story, but that’s how it went down. Sometimes life don’t make no sense, and things happen that we can’t understand. But we still gotta keep on livin’ and rememberin’ the ones we love, the ones we’ve lost, and the ones still with us.
