Alright, let’s talk about them movies, the ones like that “Departed” flick. You know, the one with all the cops and robbers and whatnot. I watched it the other day, kinda liked it, kinda didn’t. Too much shootin’ and yellin’ for my taste, but it got me thinkin’.
Movies Like “The Departed,” Huh?
So, you want somethin’ similar, eh? Well, there’s this movie, “Infernal Affairs.” That’s the one “The Departed” stole from, they say. Some Hong Kong thing. Never seen it myself, but folks say it’s about the same kinda stuff – cops and bad guys, switchin’ sides, all that jazz.
Then there’s “Heat.” Now, that one’s got cops and robbers too, but it’s a bit different. More shootin’, I reckon. And longer. Lord, it felt like it went on forever. But if you like that kinda thing, the bang-bang stuff, you might like it. My grandson, he likes that kinda movie, always shootin’ and blowin’ things up.
And, oh, what was that other one? “The Town,” that’s it! Ben Affleck, he’s in it. He’s a robber, I think. Or maybe he’s a cop? I can’t rightly remember. But it’s got that same feel, you know? Good guys, bad guys, nobody’s really all that good, if you ask me.
More Movies, More Problems
- “Infernal Affairs”: Like I said, the original “Departed.” Probably got more kung fu or somethin’, being from Hong Kong and all.
- “Heat”: Big, long movie. Lots of shootin’. Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, two big fellas in it. They yell a lot.
- “The Town”: Ben Affleck. Robbers, maybe cops. Boston, I think. They talk funny in Boston.
Now, I heard tell there’s a whole bunch of other movies like that “Departed” one. Sixty-five, they say! Can you believe it? Who’s got time to watch all them movies? I sure don’t. I got laundry to do, and them chickens need feedin’.
Where to Find ‘Em?
You wanna find these movies, you gotta go lookin’. There’s this thing called “Letterboxd,” my grandson showed me. It’s got all sorts of movies on it, people talkin’ about ’em, tellin’ you if they’re good or not. Then there’s another one, “Filmaffinity,” somethin’ like that. Same kinda thing. People votin’ on movies, makin’ lists. Lord, these young folks and their computers.
But What’s it All About, Really?
All these movies, they’re about the same thing, ain’t they? Good and bad, right and wrong. But it ain’t always so clear, is it? Sometimes the good guys do bad things, and the bad guys, well, maybe they ain’t so bad after all. Life’s complicated, that’s what I always say. Just like makin’ a good pot of stew, gotta have the right ingredients, gotta let it simmer, gotta stir it up every now and then. And even then, sometimes it just don’t turn out right.
So, Watch ‘Em or Don’t Watch ‘Em
So, there you have it. Movies like “The Departed.” Take my advice, or don’t. Makes no difference to me. I’m just an old woman, what do I know? But if you’re lookin’ for some cops and robbers, some shootin’ and yellin’, some good guys doin’ bad things, well, them movies I mentioned, they might just be what you’re lookin’ for. Just don’t blame me if you don’t like ’em. And for heaven’s sake, turn down the volume, them shootin’ scenes are loud enough to wake the dead.
Last words
I gotta go now. Them chickens are squawkin’, and I think the dog’s got into the garbage again. Kids these days and their movies, always wanting somethin’ new and exciting, but sometimes, the old ways are the best. A good book and a cup of tea, that’s my kinda entertainment. But you youngsters, you go on and watch your movies. Just remember what I said, good and bad ain’t always so clear, and sometimes, the quietest fella is the one you gotta watch out for.
