Okay, so the other day I was trying to find some new podcasts to listen to, something similar to “Up and Vanished” because I really dig that true-crime, investigative style. Here’s how I went about it:
Started with a Simple Search
First, I just googled “podcasts like up and vanished”. Pretty basic, I know, but it’s a good starting point. This gave me a bunch of articles and listicles, like “Top 10 Podcasts for True Crime Addicts” and stuff like that.
Checked Out Reddit
Next, I headed over to Reddit. I find Reddit super helpful for recommendations because it’s real people sharing their opinions. I searched within subreddits like r/podcasts and r/TrueCrimePodcasts for similar threads or posts. I find some good suggestions.

Dived into Podcast Apps
I also opened up my usual podcast apps ,I usually use Podcast Addict .I browsed through their “True Crime” categories and checked out the “Listeners Also Like” sections on the “Up and Vanished” page. The apps are getting pretty good with recommendations.
Explored Podcast Descriptions and Reviews
For any podcasts that sounded promising, I read through their descriptions carefully. I was looking for keywords like “investigative,” “cold case,” “missing person,” and “unsolved.” I also scanned the reviews to see what other listeners were saying. Did they mention “Up and Vanished”? Did they find it similarly engaging?
Tried a Few Episodes
Finally, I downloaded the first episode of a few podcasts that seemed like a good fit.I gave them a listen while doing chores or running. Sometimes a podcast sounds great on paper, but the host’s voice or the storytelling style just doesn’t click with me. There’s no substitute for actually listening to see if I like it.
My final Listened result
- I find “In the Dark” is a good choice.
- And,the “Tom Brown’s Body” is great.
That’s pretty much my process. It’s not rocket science, but it works for me. I find a handfull podcasts now!
