Alright, alright, so you wanna know about movies like “The Bricklayer,” huh? I tell you what, that movie, it’s kinda like when you’re tryin’ to fix that leaky faucet, you know? Takes a while, gets a little messy, but in the end, somethin’ gets done.
Movies like that “Bricklayer”, they ain’t exactly fallin’ off the trees like them ripe apples in the fall, but they’re out there. You gotta look a little, dig a little, like huntin’ for them lost eggs under the hen house.
- First off, you got them spy movies. You know, the ones with secrets and shootin’ and fellas runnin’ around like chickens with their heads cut off. They call ’em “spy thrillers” or somethin’ fancy like that. Like that “Jack Ryan” fella, the one from that “Shadow Recruit” movie. He’s sneaky, like my old cat Midnight tryin’ to catch a mouse.
- Then you got them “suspense” movies. That’s when you’re sittin’ on the edge of your seat, nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rockin’ chairs. Not scary like them ghost movies with all the jumpin’ and screamin’, but the kind that makes your heart thump-thump like a drum. They say there’s a whole bunch of ‘em, like, seventy-somethin’, similar to “The Bricklayer”. That’s a whole lotta movies, more than the number of chickens I had last year!
- Some folks like them older crime movies. Like that one, “A Few Good Men,” where them fellas in uniform yell at each other a lot. Or that “Enemy of the State” one, where that fella is always lookin’ over his shoulder. And that “Double Jeopardy” one, with that woman gettin’ even. Those are good, solid movies, like a good ol’ cast iron skillet – they last a long time.
Someone said a movie was like a horror movie without the scary parts. Now, I don’t watch them horror movies, too much screamin’ for my taste. But I get what they mean. It’s like, somethin’ bad’s gonna happen, you just don’t know when. Keeps ya guessin’, like tryin’ to figure out what the weather’s gonna be tomorrow.
Some of these movies, they’re dark, like that “Shutter Island” one. Folks said it was “cruel and dark, but effective.” Sounds like my rooster, mean as can be, but he sure keeps the hens in line. If you liked that “Shutter Island,” they say there’s more like it. Like that director fella, Martin somethin’-or-other, he made some good ones. And folks also mentioned a movie called “Twister” , but that sounds like a whole different story.
Then there’s that old director, Hitchcock, they say he was the king of suspense. If you like his stuff, you might like some newer movies too. Like that one called “Disturbia” from back in 2007. They say it’s kinda like one of Hitchcock’s old movies. Now, I ain’t seen it, but folks say it’s good for keepin’ ya on the edge of yer seat.
Basically, if you’re lookin’ for movies like “The Bricklayer,” you want somethin’ with secrets, somethin’ with danger, somethin’ that makes you wonder what’s gonna happen next. You want a “thriller” they call it, or a “suspense” movie. It’s all the same to me, just good stories that keep ya entertained. Like listenin’ to the old folks gossip on the porch, but with more explosions and less talk about whose cow got loose this time.
So go on, look around, ask around. You’ll find some good movies, I reckon. Just gotta be patient, like waitin’ for the biscuits to rise in the oven. And if you find a real good one, come back and tell me, will ya? I’m always up for a good story.
