Well, let me tell ya ’bout this “Horizon Part 1” thing, the way I see it. It’s a whole lotta fuss, people runnin’ and shootin’, just like them old Westerns we used to watch on that small, blurry TV back in the day.
This woman, Lucy, she gets herself into a heap of trouble. She shoots this fella, James Sykes, in Montana. Now, I ain’t sayin’ he didn’t deserve it, but that just set off a whole chain of events, like dominoes fallin’ all over the place.
She grabs her young’un, little Sam, and hightails it outta there, down to Wyoming. Figures she can hide out, start a new life, calls herself Ellen Harvey now. But ain’t no hidin’ from some folks, especially not from that Sykes family.
That Sykes woman, she’s the mama bear, and she ain’t happy. Her boy’s been shot, and she wants revenge, wants that little Sam back too. Sends her other sons after Lucy, and them boys, they mean business. They’re chasin’ her all over the place, it seems.
Then there’s this fella, Hayes Ellison, played by that Kevin Costner fella. He’s a big part of this whole mess too. Seems like he’s got his own troubles, but he gets mixed up in Lucy’s story somehow. He’s one of them central characters, you know, the kind that’s always in the thick of things. This Costner fella, he’s the one who made this whole thing, directs it and all.
- Lots of folks get introduced in this first part, all kinda characters. Good ones, bad ones, and some in between.
- They show ya all sorts of places too, out West, where the land is big and empty, and folks gotta be tough to survive.
Now, the endin’ of this part one, it leaves ya hangin’. Costner, he says it’s just the start, a whole saga, he calls it. This ain’t no one-and-done kinda story. It’s gonna keep goin’ and goin’, like a river flowin’ downhill.
There’s this posse too, led by a fella named Russell. They’re lookin’ for some Apache folks, White Mountain Apache they call ‘em. Don’t know exactly why, but it seems important to the story. They got their own thing goin’ on, and I reckon it’ll all tie together somehow later on.
This movie, it ain’t afraid to kill folks off neither. People get shot, stabbed, all sorts of ways to die. Some important folks too, ones you thought might stick around longer. But that’s the West for ya, life’s cheap and death is always around the corner.
It’s a Western, plain and simple. If you like them old cowboy movies, with shootin’ and ridin’ and all that, you’ll probably like this one. It’s got all the fixin’s: horses, guns, tough guys, and women tryin’ to make their way in a hard world. And that Kevin Costner, he’s been doin’ this kinda thing for a long time, he knows what he’s doin’. He plays that Hayes Ellison fella real good, kinda quiet and serious, but you know he’s got a lot goin’ on inside.
There’s even some vigilantes in this story, white folks lookin’ for revenge. Seems like everybody’s got a reason to be mad at somebody in this movie. They huntin’ down folks, causin’ more trouble. It’s a whole cycle of violence, like a dog chasin’ its tail.
So, that’s “Horizon Part 1” as I see it. It’s a long story, and this is just the beginnin’. If you wanna know what happens next, you gotta wait for the next part, and the part after that, I reckon. It’s like one of them long books, takes ya a while to get through it, but it keeps ya interested, keeps ya wantin’ to know what happens next. It’s a wild ride, that’s for sure.
