Alright, let’s gab about this “Hometown” thing, the Korean drama, you know? Not that cha-cha-cha one, the other one, the spooky one. It’s all about secrets and bad things happening, kinda like when old man Johnson’s prize pig went missin’ last summer, turned out it was just wanderin’ in the woods, but boy, we thought it was somethin’ awful.
So, this “Hometown,” it starts way back in 1989. There’s this fella, Jo Kyung Ho, real bad egg. Went off to Japan, came back, and what does he do? He lets loose some nasty gas at the train station. Like, why? Folks just tryna get home, and he’s pullin’ this stunt. They catch him, throw him in jail for life, good riddance, I say.
But the story ain’t over. Things get weird ten years later, in 1999. There’s this schoolgirl, Kyung-jin. Somethin’ happens to her, somethin’ mysterious. And that’s where the real trouble starts. A detective, played by that fella Yoo Jae-myung, you know, the one from “Vincenzo,” he’s on the case. He’s gotta figure out what’s goin’ on.
Then there’s this other lady, Han Ye-ri, she’s in it too. They’re both tryin’ to piece together this puzzle, and it ain’t easy. Seems there’s this tape, a recordin’, with creepy sounds and maybe somethin’ to do with people gettin’ killed. Serial killings, they call it. Like them city folk just can’t get enough of makin’ trouble.
This Jo Kyung Ho fella, even though he’s locked up, he’s still causin’ problems. He’s like a bad weed, keeps poppin’ up even when you think you got rid of it. He’s mixed up in all this mess somehow. They call him a terrorist, I guess that fits. Just a mean, nasty fella, through and through.
Now, this show, it ain’t one of them fast-paced shoot-em-ups. It’s more like watchin’ a pot boil, slow and steady. They call it a “slow-burn mystery thriller.” Means it takes its time, keeps you guessin’. And there’s some spooky stuff too, kinda like them ghost stories old Mrs. Henderson used to tell. Not full-on ghosts, but somethin’…unnatural, maybe. They even talk about a cult, which just gives me the shivers. Reminds me of that time them city folks came through tryin’ to sell us those weird rocks, said they had magic powers. Hmph.
- 1989: Jo Kyung Ho releases sarin gas, gets locked up.
- 1999: Schoolgirl Kyung-jin disappears, detective investigates.
- The Tape: Mysterious recordings link to serial killings.
- Jo Kyung Ho: Still a big problem, even from jail.
The director, Park Hyun Suk, he made it all kinda dark and creepy. Like bein’ stuck in a small, dark room, that’s what they say. And it makes you think, you know? Makes you think about the bad things people do, and the secrets they keep. It’s like they say at the end, if you got darkness inside you, gotta let the light in. Sounds kinda preachy, but I guess it makes sense.
So, if you like them stories that keep you on the edge of your seat, and you don’t mind things movin’ a little slow, this “Hometown” might be for you. Just don’t expect no happy endings, ’cause life ain’t always sunshine and roses, is it? It’s more like tryin’ to grow tomatoes in rocky soil, gotta work hard for every little bit you get.
Overall, this “Hometown” drama, it’s about secrets, evil, and figuring out the truth. It’s a bit spooky, a bit slow, but it keeps you thinkin’. Just like tryin’ to figure out who stole the cookies from the jar, sometimes the answer ain’t so easy to find.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go check on my chickens, those darn foxes been snoopin’ around again.
