Alright, let’s talk about this Heather’s Choice stuff, you know, the food you take when you’re out and about, like camping or hiking. I ain’t no fancy expert, but I ate it, and I got things to say.
First off, they got all sorts of things, like breakfast and dinner, even these little cookie things called “Packaroons.” Sounds fancy, huh? Well, they’re just cookies, but they’re supposed to last a long time, like a year or two. That’s good, I guess, ’cause who wants their food going bad on them in the woods?
Now, I heard tell this Heather lady, the one who started this whole thing, she was a big-shot rower in college. Guess she knows a thing or two about eating right, especially when you’re burning a lot of energy. And she even got herself a fancy degree in something called “evolutionary nutrition.” Sounds like she knows her stuff, but let’s see if the food is any good.
What about the taste? Well, some folks say it’s pretty tasty, others say it’s just alright. I tried a few of their meals. One time I had this salmon dinner thing. It was okay, the salmon was a bit dry, but I guess that’s what happens when you dry food out so it lasts longer. It filled my belly, that’s for sure. You can eat it right out of the bag which is good if you don’t want to do dishes, it all just depends on if you have water to spare. You add a bit of hot water and let it sit for a spell. It wasn’t like my home cooking, mind you, but it wasn’t bad either. The meat was a bit tough too, but maybe that’s because it’s made to last.
I also tried their breakfast, some kind of oatmeal with berries. That was pretty good, not too sweet, just right. And those Packaroons, they were like little energy bites, kinda chewy, kinda sweet. Good for when you need a little pick-me-up on the trail. A friend told me about the blueberry lemon packaroons, and he thought they were delicious, but like I said I don’t like fancy foods. It tasted a bit like those fancy lemon cookies you see in the city but a bit more chewy. I would recommend them for anyone to try, they weren’t too bad for a snack while on the move.
Now, let’s talk about the price. This stuff ain’t cheap, let me tell you. I saw one of those dinners, just one little bag, going for fifteen, sixteen dollars! That’s a lot of money for one meal, especially when you can get a whole can of beans for a couple of bucks. But I guess you’re paying for the convenience, and for the fact that it lasts a long time and is light to carry.
- Pricey: You’re paying more, that’s for sure. But maybe it’s worth it if you don’t want to carry a lot of weight.
- Lasts Long: This food will sit on your shelf for a long, long time, so you don’t have to worry about it going bad.
- Lightweight: If you’re carrying your food on your back, every ounce counts. This stuff is light, so that’s a good thing.
- Taste: It’s not like a home-cooked meal, but it’s not bad either. Some things are better than others, you just gotta try them and see what you like.
So, is it worth it? Well, that depends. If you’re just going on a little day hike, you can probably just pack a sandwich and some fruit. But if you’re going on a longer trip, and you need food that’s lightweight and lasts a long time, then Heather’s Choice might be worth the money. It ain’t perfect, but it’ll keep you fed, and that’s what matters when you’re out in the wilderness. And hey, maybe if you’re lucky, you’ll catch this Heather lady on that Shark Tank show. I heard tell she was on there trying to get folks to invest in her food. Good for her, I say. It takes a lot of guts to start your own business, especially when you’re making food that people are gonna eat in the middle of nowhere.
But like I always say, the best food is the food you got when you need it. And if you’re hungry enough, even a stale biscuit will taste good. So, if you’re planning a trip, take a look at Heather’s Choice. It might just be what you need to keep your belly full and your energy up.
Oh, and another thing, if you buy this stuff, be sure to save the bags. You can use ‘em to carry other things, like your extra socks or your toothbrush. Waste not, want not, that’s what my mama always said. And those bags are pretty sturdy, so they’ll last a good while.
One last thing I like to bring on the trail is hard candies. I like the root beer ones, and it helps to keep my saliva flowing so I don’t get a dry mouth. You know, when you’re out hiking and talking all day, your mouth gets dry and it makes me cough, so hard candies keep me from doing that.
Well, that’s about all I got to say about Heather’s Choice. It’s food, it’ll keep you alive, and it’s pretty easy to make. If you got the money, give it a try. If not, well, there’s always beans and rice.
