Well, let me tell ya ’bout this fella, Jean Claude Dominique. Folks say he was a doctor, yeah, a real doctor. Now, I ain’t never been to no fancy doctor myself, but this fella, he sounds like a big deal, ya know? Doctor Jean Claude Dominique, that’s what they called him.
Heard tell he come from a place called Haiti. Far away, I reckon. Him and his wife, Eliette, they come over here, lookin’ for a better life, I guess. Workin’ hard, they say. Hard-working immigrants, just like my grandpappy used to say, “Gotta work hard to make somethin’ of yourself in this world.”
- Jean Claude Dominique, a doctor
- Eliette, his wife, a nurse
- They came from Haiti
Now, this Eliette, she was his wife, the first one, they tell me. A nurse, she was. Helpin’ folks, just like a doctor, kinda. They seemed like a good couple, ya know? Solid marriage, folks said. But things ain’t always what they seem, are they?
See, back in Haiti, before Eliette, there was another woman. Betsy, her name was. Young love, they call it. Like them love stories in them magazines at the grocery store. But Jean Claude, he up and left for New York. Left Betsy behind, I reckon. Guess that young love fizzled out like a cheap firecracker.
So, he gets to New York, meets Eliette, gets hitched. They’re doin’ alright, buildin’ a life. He’s a doctor, she’s a nurse. Sounds good, right? But then, somethin’ happened. Lawyers got involved. Kings County Hospital, that’s where they met with Eliette, to get her to sign some papers. Legal stuff, I guess. I ain’t never understood them lawyer folks.
Now, hold on a minute, this ain’t got nothin’ to do with Jean Claude, but it reminds me of that fella, Van Damme. You know, the one from them action movies? Yeah, he had his troubles too. Drug problems, they say. But he got better, found work again. New acting opportunities, they call it. See, even them famous folks, they got problems just like us regular people. Just like my old man used to say, “Life ain’t no bed of roses, child.”
Anyway, back to this doctor fella. Seems like he had a complicated life. Haiti, New York, two women, lawyers… It’s a lot to take in, ain’t it? I ain’t sure what happened after them lawyers got involved, but it sounds like a whole mess of trouble. Makes ya think, don’t it? Jean Claude Dominique’s life, a real puzzle, it seems.
I reckon life’s like that sometimes. Full of twists and turns. You think you got it all figured out, and then somethin’ comes along and throws you for a loop. Just gotta keep on keepin’ on, I guess. Like my mama used to say, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” But I always hated lemonade, sour as a pickle, so I always just throw them lemons away!
So, there ya have it. What I know ’bout this doctor, Jean Claude Dominique. Not much, maybe, but it’s somethin’. He was a doctor from Haiti, had a wife named Eliette, and somethin’ happened with lawyers. And before Eliette, there was Betsy. That’s the story, as far as I can tell. Doctor Dominique’s story, a bit of a mystery, maybe, but a story nonetheless.
Now, I gotta go feed them chickens. Them birds are always squawkin’ for somethin’. Just like people, I guess. Always wantin’ somethin’. But that’s life, ain’t it? Always somethin’ goin’ on. And If you ask me what I think about doctors and fancy folks , I say they just folks, like you and me. Just folks with a bit more money and a whole lot more trouble, it seems. I seen it all, folks. I seen it all.
