Well, let me tell you ’bout this show, Fishbowl Wives. It’s a Japanese thing, on that Netflix. Don’t watch too much TV myself, too busy with the chickens and the garden, ya know? But this one, it kinda stuck with me.
Started off kinda spicy, if ya catch my drift. This fella, Takuya, he’s got a wife, Sakura. But he’s, uh, busy with another woman right off the bat. Tokyo high-rise apartment, they said. Fancy stuff. Not like my little house, that’s for sure.
Anyways, the whole show is about these wives, see? And they’re all messed up in their marriages. Toxic relationships, the young folks call it. Back in my day, you just grit your teeth and got on with it. But these ladies, they’re not havin’ it. They got problems, lots of ’em.
- Husbands cheatin’.
- Husbands not payin’ attention.
- Husbands just bein’ plain mean.
And you know what? They all got goldfish. Weird, right? But that’s the connection. Fishbowl Wives, that’s why they call it. Maybe the fish are like them, trapped in a little bowl, just swimmin’ in circles.
Now, there’s this one gal, Sakura, she’s the main one I guess. Her husband, that Takuya, he’s a real piece of work. Treats her like dirt. So, she starts lookin’ elsewhere. And there’s this fella at a fish store… you can probably guess what happens. It’s all about love and betrayal, just like that young’un said.
Each episode, they show ya a different wife, a different story. Some are sad, some are just plain silly. But they all got that same problem, unhappy with their husbands. And they all lookin’ for somethin’ more. Infidelity, they call it. Used to be, you got caught doin’ that, the whole town would know. Now, it’s on TV!
This show, it ain’t perfect, mind you. Lots of things that don’t make much sense. Contradictions and inconsistencies, like the smart folks say. But it keeps ya watchin’, ya know? Like a train wreck, you just can’t look away. It’s all about lust, too. These folks ain’t just lookin for a cup of sugar if ya know what I mean.
So, how does it all end? Well, time passes, things change. Some couples stay together, some don’t. That Yuri girl, she gets pregnant. Tsuta and Noriko, they stick it out. But Sakura, she’s had enough. She finally decides to get a divorce from that good-for-nothin’ husband of hers.
And that fish store guy? She leaves him too! Said she needs to be independent, on her own. Starts a new salon, a new life. Girl power moment, they called it. Good for her, I say. About time these women stood up for themselves.
It ain’t like those old movies, where the woman always forgives the man and they live happily ever after. This is different. This is about women finding their own way, makin’ their own choices. And that’s what the Fishbowl Wives ending is all about, takin’ control.
So, was it a good show? Eh, it was alright. Kept me entertained for a bit. Made me think, too. About marriage, about relationships, about how things ain’t always what they seem. And about those goldfish, swimmin’ in their little bowls. Makes ya wonder, don’t it?
This drama, it started in 2022. Not sure why they made it, but I guess people like watchin’ other folks’ problems. Makes their own seem a little better, maybe? I don’t know. I got my own problems to worry about, like that leaky faucet and the price of feed these days. But for a little while, Fishbowl Wives took me away from all that. And that, I guess, is worth somethin’. This whole thing is about how these wives are facing marital problems, pure and simple.
