Okay, so I’ve been meaning to track down some of the filming spots for “Crazy, Stupid, Love.” – you know, that movie with Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell? It’s one of my favorites, and I thought it’d be fun to see some of the places in real life. I did some digging, and here’s how it went down:
First Stop: The Infamous Bar
First, I needed to figure out where they filmed that iconic bar scene. You know, the one where Jacob (Gosling) teaches Cal (Carell) how to pick up women? I looked it up online. It took a few tries. Initially, I just got a bunch of results that, you know, and many of the results were about relationship advice. Total fail.
After searching with more specific terms, I got a hit. It was some random forum where a person asked the same question I was looking for! Apparently, it’s a real place called The Edison in downtown LA.

- The Edison:I went down there last week.
- It’s a pretty cool spot, all decked out in this 1920s, industrial kind of vibe.
- I sat at the bar, ordered an Old Fashioned (seemed appropriate), and just soaked it in.
- Did not see Ryan Gosling, sadly.
Cal’s House: A Residential Mystery
Next up, I wanted to find Cal’s house. The exterior shots, with that big, beautiful yard… I wanted to see it. But, It was a bit trickier. There was no clear answer on the internet, that I could find right away, anyway.
I figured it was probably in some nice, leafy suburb of Los Angeles. I spent a good hour just browsing Google Street View in different neighborhoods – Pasadena, South Pasadena, even parts of Encino. I know, I know, it’s a bit much, but I was determined! And it payed off. I finally found a picture that another person had taken of the house. It turns out it’s in Altadena.
- It’s private property, so I didn’t go knocking or anything.
- I just drove by slowly, admiring the architecture.
- It really is a gorgeous house.
The Mall: Westfield Century City
I also vaguely remembered a scene in a mall. After, yet, another search I found out it’s the Westfield Century City.
- Westfield Century City: Pretty standard mall, really.
- But, hey, it’s in the movie!
- I grabbed a coffee and walked around, imagining Emma Stone bumping into Ryan Gosling.
Final Thoughts
It was cool to see these places in person. It’s like stepping into the movie, in a way. It gives me new ideas about my next film location hunt. Maybe “La La Land” next? We’ll see. This was a lot of fun, though! I will do it again!
