Okay, so I’ve been on this huge crime thriller kick lately, and I just re-watched “The Snowman.” It got me thinking about other movies that have that same kind of vibe – you know, dark, atmospheric, with a twisty mystery. So, I decided to do some digging and find some similar movies. I am going to share with you how I did it.
Started With the Basics
First, I listed out what I liked about “The Snowman”:
- Nordic Noir setting (that snowy, bleak landscape is amazing)
- Complex, flawed detective
- Serial killer with a “signature”
- Lots of twists and turns
Hit the Search Engines
Then, I jumped online. I started with simple searches. Stuff like, “”movies like The Snowman”” or “”best Nordic Noir films.”” I also tried some more specific searches, focusing on things that were standouts in the movie. Those were “”serial killer movies with detectives””, and “psychological thriller with snow”.
Checked Out Movie Databases
I also spent some time on movie databases. I looked at the “similar movies” recommendations, and read through user reviews and lists. I used some filter to find some movie recommendations.
Narrowed Down the List
After all that searching, I had a pretty big list. So, I started to narrow it down. I read more detailed synopses and watched some trailers. I picked out the ones that seemed to really hit those key elements I was looking for.

That’s basically my process! It’s not rocket science, but it’s a fun way to find some new movies to watch when you’re in a specific mood.
