Alright, so the other day I was trying to find some movies similar to “Despicable Me 2” because, well, my kids absolutely love it, and we’ve watched it like a million times. I needed something new but in the same ballpark.
Digging for Gold
First, I fired up my trusty laptop and opened my go-to search engine. You know, the usual suspect. I typed in something super simple like “movies like Despicable Me 2”. I wasn’t expecting to find anything too specific, but it was a good starting point.
The results? A whole bunch of lists! Some were from movie review sites, others were just blog posts from other parents in the same boat as me. I started clicking through a few of them, scanning for titles that popped up more than once. You know, trying to find the common threads.

Making a List
I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen – yeah, I’m old school like that – and started jotting down the movies that seemed promising. I was looking for things that had similar themes: animation, family-friendly, silly humor, maybe a bit of a “villain turns good” storyline.
- “Minions” obviously came up a lot.
- “The Secret Life of Pets” seemed like a good contender.
- I also saw “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” mentioned a few times.
- “Megamind” that one looked interesting.
I avoided anything that looked too scary or intense. My kids are still pretty young, so I didn’t want to give them nightmares!
The Final Cut
After narrowing it down, I ended up with a handful of movies that I thought would be a good fit. Next step? Checking out trailers on, to make sure the vibe was right. And that how I got the movies which I need!
