Exploring the Filming Locations of Obituary: Ballyshannon and Beyond

Well, I heard a lot about this new show called “Obituary,” and let me tell ya, it’s been makin’ waves! It’s one of them new dark comedies, you know, a little twisted but funny at the same time. If you’re wonderin’ where this show was filmed, I can tell ya it ain’t too far from here, over in Ireland. They did most of the shootin’ in a place called Ballyshannon, which is up in County Donegal, right on the western coast of the country. It’s one of them quiet little towns that’s perfect for a story like this, if you ask me.

The whole thing centers around a lady, Siobhan Cullen, who plays a small-town obituarist, of all things. Now, if you ain’t familiar, an obituarist is someone who writes about people who’ve passed on, you know, their life stories and whatnot. Now, this ain’t your typical sad, serious kind of show. Nah, it’s got a whole lotta dark humor in it. People in the show, and maybe the viewers too, are gonna find some twisted fun in the business of death, if you can believe that!

Filming took place in Ballyshannon, like I mentioned, and also in Bundoran, which is another little town nearby. They’re both in County Donegal. Beautiful places, let me tell ya. The whole thing was shot in the winter too, so you can imagine the weather wasn’t exactly warm. But I reckon the cold didn’t stop ’em from gettin’ it all done. The show even had some folks from the local areas playin’ extras or helpin’ out here and there. It’s a nice thing when shows use the local areas like that, gives the place a bit of fame, ya know.

Now, I ain’t gonna spoil too much of the story for ya, but it’s about this woman who works as the local obituarist in a small town. She’s got a lot of dark secrets, and things start to get a bit outta hand as the show goes on. Sounds like a real mix of laughs and shivers, if you ask me! This show, “Obituary,” it’s got a real twist to it, and the whole thing is pretty much set in a small Irish town, so you’re gonna get a lot of that charm and coziness that comes with the area. The town’s really a character on its own in this show!

In the first season, Siobhan Cullen, who’s known from a show called “The Dry,” takes the lead role. She’s a talented actress, and it’s no surprise she’s in this one too. Then you got other folks like Michael Smiley, Danielle Galligan, and Ronan Raftery, who add to the mix. They all really bring the show to life, and it’s got a good ensemble cast. People love watchin’ it, even though it’s not your usual kind of comedy. It’s a little offbeat, a little weird, and maybe that’s what makes it so good!

Filming for the second season is already in the works, and they’re gonna continue shootin’ around Ballyshannon. Seems like that’s the spot they’re gonna stick with, and I don’t blame ’em. It’s got that perfect small-town vibe, the kind of place where everyone knows everyone, but they still got a whole lotta stories to tell. It just works for the show!

So, if you’re lookin’ for somethin’ a little different, and you don’t mind a few dark laughs, you might wanna give “Obituary” a watch. It’s a good mix of mystery, comedy, and that Irish charm. And don’t forget, it’s all filmed in them beautiful Donegal towns, so you get a bit of a sightseeing tour too while you’re watchin’! What’s better than that, eh?
