Well, let me tell ya ’bout this movie, “The Good Mother.” I watched it the other day, and it sure got me thinkin’. This ain’t no fancy talkin’ picture, mind you. It’s about a woman, Marissa, they call her, played by that Hilary Swank gal. She’s a journalist, see, like them folks who write for the newspapers.
This Marissa, she’s got a son, and somethin’ bad happened to him. The whole movie, you’re tryin’ to figure out what the heck’s goin’ on. It’s a real puzzle, I tell ya. Keeps ya guessin’ till the very end.
They say it’s a “psychological thriller.” Now, I ain’t no fancy city slicker, but I reckon that means it messes with your head a bit. And boy, does it ever! This Marissa, she’s diggin’ and diggin’, tryin’ to find out the truth about her son’s trouble. It’s like she’s got a burr under her saddle, can’t sit still till she knows what’s what.
- First off, they talk about this Michael fella. Something happened to him, that’s for sure.
- Then there’s the son, always in some kind of trouble or another. Kids these days, I tell ya.
- And Marissa, bless her heart, she’s caught right in the middle of it all.
The movie, it jumps around a bit. One minute you think you know what happened, the next minute, bam! It throws you a curveball. It’s like tryin’ to catch a greased pig at the county fair, I swear. Just when you think you got it, it slips right outta your hands.
Now, this Marissa, she finds out some real nasty stuff. Stuff that could ruin her son’s life. Can you imagine? A mother havin’ to choose between the truth and her own flesh and blood? It ain’t right, I tell ya. It just ain’t right.
The ending, well, that’s the real kicker. They leave you hangin’, like a shirt on a clothesline in a windstorm. Marissa’s sittin’ there, lookin’ at her story, the one that tells the whole awful truth. And you don’t know, not for sure, if she’s gonna publish it or not. It’s up to you to decide, I guess. Makes you think, what would you do in her shoes?
I heard some folks sayin’ it’s about a “deal” with her daughter. Somethin’ about takin’ care of a brother. Honestly, it got a bit confusing there towards the end. Too much twistin’ and turnin’ for this old gal, I reckon. But that’s how these city folks like it, I suppose. All complicated and whatnot.
One thing’s for sure, though, this movie ain’t for the faint of heart. It deals with some tough stuff, the kind that makes your stomach churn. But it’s also about a mother’s love, and how far she’ll go to protect her child. Even if it means hurting them, maybe. It’s a hard thing to understand, but that’s life, ain’t it? Full of hard things.
So, if you’re lookin’ for a movie that’ll keep ya on the edge of your seat, this “Good Mother” might be just the ticket. Just be warned, it ain’t gonna be no easy ride. It’ll make ya think, and it might even make ya cry. But that’s what makes a good story, I reckon. The ones that stick with you long after the credits roll.
And that’s all I gotta say about it. Go see it if you want, or don’t. Makes no difference to me. Just don’t come cryin’ to me if it gives you nightmares. I warned ya, it’s a tough one.
If you want my opinion, this kind of movie just makes me appreciate the simple things more. Give me a good cup of coffee and some peace and quiet, and I’m happy. That’s the good life, if you ask me. But I suppose everyone’s got their own idea of what’s good. Even this Marissa woman, in her own complicated way, was just tryin’ to do what she thought was best. Or maybe she wasn’t. Like I said, that movie leaves you with more questions than answers.
And honestly, after all that fuss, I still don’t know if she published that dang article or not! They should make movies a little simpler, if you ask me. Like them old westerns, where you know who the good guys and the bad guys are right from the start. None of this psychological mumbo jumbo.
But I suppose that’s why they make all kinds of movies, for all kinds of folks. Me, I’ll probably stick to my stories on the radio. At least then I can knit while I listen and I don’t have to try and figure out what happened to some city slicker’s kid all evening. But this here movie is what the young’uns are talkin’ about these days, so there you have it. From my mouth to your ears, as they say.
