Alright, let’s talk about this “Barbarians” movie from 2021. Don’t expect no fancy talk from me, I’m just gonna tell it like it is, ya know? Like how we talk back home.
So, they say it’s a horror movie, a home invasion thing. But lemme tell ya, it ain’t all that scary. It’s more like a dinner party gone wrong, real wrong. These folks, they get together, supposed to be havin’ a good time, but then…well, things get messy. Real messy.
Some folks say it’s funny, this movie. A “comedy of ill manners,” they call it. I guess I can see that a little bit. These people, they ain’t exactly polite, you know? They got their secrets, their grudges, and it all comes out durin’ this dinner. It’s kinda like watchin’ a train wreck, you can’t look away even though you know it’s gonna be bad.
But then it gets kinda thrillin’ too. Like, edge-of-your-seat stuff. You don’t know what’s gonna happen next. Who’s gonna turn on who? Who’s gonna survive? It keeps ya guessin’, that’s for sure.
- It ain’t just a simple story though. They make it look real nice, the way they film it. Pretty pictures, even when things are gettin’ ugly.
- And the story, it’s about more than just a bad dinner party. It’s about these people, how they act, what they want. It’s about greed, I guess, and maybe about how men can be…well, let’s just say they ain’t always the nicest. They call it “toxic masculinity,” somethin’ like that. Sounds about right to me.
Now, the movie, it’s about this rich couple, livin’ out in the country. And wouldn’t ya know it, things go bad for ’em. Real bad. There’s even this sick fox, kinda sets the mood, ya know? Like a bad omen, my grandma used to say.
Some folks, they didn’t like this movie much. Said it wasn’t scary enough, or it was too weird. But I dunno, I kinda liked it. It wasn’t perfect, mind you, but it kept me entertained. It made me think a little bit too, which ain’t always a bad thing.
The director, this fella Charles Dorfman, he made this movie. First time he’s written and directed somethin’, I heard. He did alright, I guess. Coulda been better, coulda been worse. But hey, that’s just my opinion.
Now, about these characters…they ain’t saints, let me tell ya. There’s this Lucas, and Adam, and a bunch of others. They all got their problems, their secrets. And they all seem to be lookin’ out for themselves, mostly. Ain’t much loyalty in that bunch, that’s for sure.
And the violence…yeah, there’s some of that. It ain’t the goriest movie I ever seen, but it ain’t for the faint of heart neither. It’s the kinda violence that makes ya squirm a little, ya know? ‘Cause it feels real, somehow. Like it could happen to anyone.
So, would I recommend this “Barbarians” movie? Well, it depends. If you’re lookin’ for a straight-up horror flick, with jump scares and monsters, this ain’t it. But if you want somethin’ a little different, somethin’ that makes ya think a little, and maybe even laugh a little, then yeah, give it a shot. Just don’t expect it to be easy watchin’.
At the end of the day, it’s a movie about people, and people ain’t always pretty, ya know? We got our good sides and our bad sides. And this movie, it shows both. So go in with an open mind, and see what you think. And don’t forget the popcorn, ya hear?
