Alright, alright, lemme tell ya ’bout this “Simply Lies” thing. It’s a book, see? A real page-turner, they say. Don’t ask me what that means exactly, but I couldn’t put it down, even though my eyes were gettin’ blurry and my back was achin’. This Mickey Gibson, she’s a woman, a ma, you know? Got a couple of young’uns, Darby and Tommy. And she used to be a cop, a detective, the kind that chases bad guys. But now she’s workin’ from home, doin’ stuff on the computer for some company called ProEye.
So, this book, “Simply Lies,” it’s all about secrets and lies, just like the name says. Someone calls Mickey, this mysterious person, and they want her to find some money. A whole pile of it, stolen money from some bad people a long time ago. And this person, they don’t say who they are, just calls themselves Arlene. Sounds fishy, right? Well, it gets worse. The fella who stole the money, he’s dead, murdered in his own house.
- Mickey’s got to figure out who killed him.
- She’s gotta find that money.
- And she’s gotta keep her kids safe.
It ain’t easy, let me tell ya. This Arlene person keeps givin’ her clues, sendin’ her all over the place. And there are other people involved, bad people, dangerous people. They want the money too, and they don’t care who they hurt to get it. Mickey, she’s tough, though. She’s been through a lot, bein’ a cop and a single ma and all. She ain’t afraid to get her hands dirty.
Now, this Rochelle Enders woman, she’s kinda mixed up in the whole thing too. See, the dead fella, he was hidin’ from the bad people with his wife, Francine, under some kind of witness protection thingy. And Francine’s brother, Dough, he married Rochelle after they left this protection program. So, Rochelle, she knows some stuff, maybe even where the money is. But she ain’t talkin’ much, at least not at first.
This David Baldacci, the fella who wrote the book, he makes it real excitin’. You keep guessin’ and guessin’ who the bad guy is, who’s tellin’ the truth, and who’s just plain lyin’. It’s like a puzzle, a real complicated one. And Mickey, she’s like a dog with a bone, she don’t give up ’til she figures it all out.
The endin’, well, I ain’t gonna spoil it for ya. But I will say it’s a real doozy. Everything kinda comes together, all the pieces fall into place. And you realize that some people ain’t who you thought they were. There’s twists and turns, and you’re sittin’ there with your mouth open, sayin’ “I didn’t see that comin’!” That’s what makes it a good book, see? It keeps you guessin’ right up to the very end.
Mickey, she’s a strong woman, a good ma. She does what she gotta do to protect her kids and to do what’s right. And that’s what I like about her. She ain’t perfect, mind you, nobody is. But she’s got a good heart, and she don’t back down from a fight. And that ProEye company, they seem alright too, helpin’ her out and all. It’s good to have folks on your side when you’re dealin’ with killers and thieves.
So, if you like them books that keep you on the edge of your seat, you should read “Simply Lies”. Just don’t expect it to be all sunshine and roses. There’s some dark stuff in there, some violence and betrayal. But that’s what makes it real, ain’t it? Life ain’t always easy, and sometimes you gotta fight for what you believe in. And that’s what Mickey Gibson does, she fights. She fights for her kids, for the truth, and for a little bit of justice in this crazy world.
And let me tell ya, that Arlene character, she’s a real piece of work. Keeps ya guessing all the way through. Is she good? Is she bad? You just don’t know. And that’s the fun of it, ain’t it? The mystery, the suspense. It’s like a good ol’ country gossip session, but with a lot more at stake.
