Beyond Harold and Maude: Discover More Cult Classic Films.

Okay, so the other day I was on this quest, right? A quest for movies that give off the same vibe as “Harold and Maude.” That movie is just… chef’s kiss. So unique, so darkly funny, and with this weirdly heartwarming thing going on. I needed more of that in my life.

First, I hit up Google. Just straight up typed in “films like Harold and Maude”. I mean, where else do you start, honestly? The results were okay… a bunch of lists, some obvious choices, some I’d already seen. Nothing really jumped out at me.

Then, I remembered this old forum I used to lurk on, way back when. It’s all about cult classics and indie films. Figured, if anyone would know, it’d be those guys. So, I dug up the link – took a bit of searching through my old bookmarks, I’m not gonna lie – and posted a question there. I laid it all out, you know, “Looking for that Harold and Maude feel, any suggestions?”

  • Waited a bit.
  • Checked back.
  • Nada. Zilch. Zero replies.

I started to search online, and found something interesting.

I kept digging, though. I wasn’t about to give up that easy. I started looking at directors similar to Hal Ashby (he directed “Harold and Maude”). That led me down a bit of a rabbit hole, checking out Wes Anderson’s filmography, and even some of the Coen brothers’ stuff. “Being There” is good, and I found it!
