Alright, so the other day I was in the mood for something gritty, something real, you know? I had just rewatched “City of God” – man, what a film! – and I was itching for something similar. So, I started digging.
My Little Quest for Films
First, I just did a simple thing. I typed “movies similar to City of God” into the search bar. Boom! Tons of lists popped up, some were useful, some were… not so much. It was a total mixed bag.
I started jotting down the movies that kept appearing on multiple lists. I figured, if a film’s name is popping up everywhere, it’s gotta be worth checking out, right? Here’s what my initial list looked like:

I eventually managed to find those movies. What a ride! They all delivered that raw, intense energy I was craving. It wasn’t exactly the same as “City of God” – nothing ever really is – but they definitely scratched that itch.
