Well, I heard ’bout Ashley Pittman Scott’s story not too long ago, and it got me thinking. She was a young woman, just 32 years old, and her life came to an awful end that night in Memphis. You see, Ashley, she didn’t deserve what happened to her. No one does, really. A real tragedy, that one. They say she was found dead at Baptist East on Thanksgiving night, and the doctors, they looked into it real good. The autopsy came back, and it wasn’t pretty. Poor thing had a whole bunch of injuries, they said, from bein’ beaten real bad. Couldn’t hardly believe it when I first heard it.
Now, they say her husband, a man by the name of Jeffrey Scott, he’s the one that done it. A man that she once called her partner, the father of her children. The court found him guilty. What a sad, sad thing. He didn’t just hurt her, he took her away from this world, and now there’s no more Ashley in it. It’s hard to understand why someone would do that, especially to someone they’re supposed to love.
It’s just like they always say, ain’t it? You never know what’s going on behind closed doors. They say that Jeffrey Scott and Ashley, they were living in Memphis at the time, and things had gone bad between ‘em. What goes on behind them doors, well, we’ll never really know, but I reckon there’s always more to the story than meets the eye. Whatever it was, it ended with her dead, and him goin’ off to jail for it.
Now, Ashley, she had a lotta people who loved her. Folks in Bossier City, where she used to live, they remember her real well. They remember her for the good things she did, the way she smiled, and the way she touched people’s lives. But all that came to an end when that man lost his mind and took her away from everyone who cared about her. That’s a real shame, I tell ya. The world ain’t the same without her.
I reckon there’s some things we’ll never know about what led up to that night. But one thing’s for sure, Ashley’s death left a hole in a lotta hearts. Ain’t no explanation that’ll ever make sense of it. The autopsy said she died from a whole mess of injuries, from bein’ beaten real bad. I don’t know what coulda gone so wrong between them, but it sure ended in a way that no one could’ve ever expected.
It’s hard to talk about these kinds of things, y’know? The kind of hurt that someone can do to another person, especially when it’s someone you love. What they say is true, though. You gotta be careful who you trust, who you let into your life, and who you let in your heart. There’s a lotta folks out there, like Jeffrey Scott, who’ll hurt the ones they’re supposed to protect. That’s somethin’ I’ll never understand.
In the end, though, I reckon all we can do is remember Ashley for who she was before all this happened. Remember the good things about her, and how she lived her life. She didn’t deserve to go out like that, but that don’t mean her memory won’t live on. The folks who knew her, they’ll carry that with ‘em, even after all the time passes.
It’s real sad when a life is taken too soon, and all that’s left is a memory and some headlines. But I reckon that’s how the world works sometimes. Just gotta keep going, one step at a time, even when things don’t make no sense. Maybe, just maybe, we’ll learn somethin’ from it all. If not for us, then for the ones we love, to make sure they don’t end up like Ashley. It’s a hard thing to think about, but it’s something we need to, whether we want to or not.
